Default Just ordered Porsche Short Shifter

Just ordered Porsche OEM short shifter for my Arctic Silver/Black 997 from Suncoast Porsche ($399). Based my decision on testimonials and posts here. Will have local dealer install. How much time/money should I expect to spend on the install?

Just ordered mine yesterday too. Should be no more than 1 hour labor - I may install mine or I may get lazy and let my dealer do it.

Is the short shifter the same as the "sport shifter?"

- my car is coming with it - and I drove a test car that had it - and while it is "notchier" than the standard, I liked the feel and the distance for the throws. Also, it is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over the 996.

Yes. Its one in the same. I highly recommend it. At first it will be stiff, but it loosens up and has a great feel.

I guess I got "short changed" on the "short shifter" - I paid approx 700-800$ for it (upon ordering my car) - The only advantage, I guess, is that it will be covered by warranty (my justification!)

DIY! It will be that much more enjoyable. I had NEVER done anything like before on any of my cars, so it felt good to DIY! Took 1.75 hours but I took my time. Jump in and DIY! You'll be glad you did!

Not to make YoungTurk feel bad, but I got it at Brandywine for $349. This is OEM and includes the housing (making install easier than B&M and avoiding any warranty issues). Too good a deal to pass up.

Doesn't Porsche use B&M as the source for its short shifter? If not, what are differences?
TIA

Fairly certain that the 997 Sport Shifer is indeed B&M outsourced - I think this is what Alfie told me when I was ordering my car.

I thought it was different? The factory one is made of plastic, but the B&M is machined alloy. Also read, I think on this forum, that the B&M doesn't fit quite as well as the factory one.

I think the OEM 996 short shifter was manufactured by B&M for Porsche; almost identical but not exactly. The 997 OEM short shifter comes in the housing and I think is easier to install. I think it also comes with a little plastic tool that holds or marks the cables. For the small difference in price, I went with OEM to avoid any warranty issues and for easier installation. It's on ebay now from Brandywine Porsche, $349. Pic of the OEM short shifter:

One small tip which I wish I had when I did my Boxster. Some shift ***** have set screws others just pull off and push (very hard) to get on. I wasted time trying to find the set screw as indicated in instructions. Turns out mine pulled off (no set screw) not mentioned in instructions. Easy to DIY.
