997 S Times...
I have seen lots of different acceleration (0-60 & 1/4mi) times for the 997 S. The lowest was C&D (I think) that must had a ringer 'cause they posted 3.9s to 60. Seems to me that upper 4's, say 4.8s, should be reasonable without too much clutch torture, right? Has anyone taken their 997 S to the local drag for official timings? No flames about taking a 911 to a drag strip, please -- it is just a timing slip is real irrefutable evidence.

Then ...
What was your time slip? Unless you were pulling my leg

My experience with past sports cars and 0-60/q mile runs was that 'dumping the clutch' is certainly a necessary evil for good times BUT make you go through clutches like toilet paper (and tires). I presently have an Audi TT (light mods) and I just can't bring myself to dumping the clutch - as much as I'd like to see 4 wheels spinning.
Many enthusiast mags report things like "rolling start 5-60 mph" to simulate 'real' world driving situations where you want to either 'compete' or just have fun - i.e. w/o smoking the clutch and those expensive tires.
Example: C&D 12/04 test of 997: 0-60 mph 4.3; 5-60 mph 5.3
Hope this helps in terms of

0-60 SOP?
0-60 Times should be determined by giving a professional driver these instructions:
"get from 0-60 and beyond as fast as possible while destroying the clutch in the process."
This way everybody will know how fast their cars are with a clear benchmark.
Would be cool to get people thinking in terms huge repair bills AND tenths of seconds at the same time!

CoochasTT: I agree ... Rolling start times are a good test of real world times and low-end torque.
sticky: Thanks for the timeslip. Mid 12s @ 111 is moving for a normally aspirated car.
MMD: So many car rags publish clutch destroying times. After all, just look at the times they post for cars like the STi and Evo where the times can vary by a .75s depending upon who is paying for the clutch.
