allocations will be given to dealers probably next month, though maybe as late as august. Deliveries should start around november. There will be a different option guide, though it has not yet been released. I believe the C4S will be about 6k more than the Carrera S. Hope this helps,
isn' the 4S slower than a S? if so why go with it. is it all about the look, ie: turbo body? just trying to figure out what people are thinking with regrards to the pricing and availabilty.
The 4S and S 996 models had nearly identical acceleration and top speed profiles in most tests.
If you are using the Porsche site to compare model 0-60 times, note that the Targa/4S/Turbo data are all from the 996 series since their 997 counterparts are still being baked.
Hence, the 996 4S shown on the Porsche site under "911 Models" has a 3.6l 320 hp engine - compare this with the 997 base Carrera which also has 3.2l but 325 hp, or the Carrera S with its 3.8l plant generating 355hp.
Bottom line however is that the 4 or 4S biggest advantage is simply the AWD - it doesn't mind a little water on the road. To me, that's the biggest appeal - the daily driver thing.
I think Porsche first offered AWD on the original 911 turbo model much of which was meant to simply keep it stuck to the road!!!
I love my 996 C4S, the AWD rocks for daily, and I mean daily northeast driving and tracking. The best, most reliable car I've ever had the pleasure to own!
Most people have said it already, with AWD, it makes it a plausible daily driver in the northeast. Snow tires are a must, but then the car becomes very stable in snowy conditions. The additional width is a nice thing, although not as important on 997 as it was on 996.
Dave, I believe that when they introduced awd on the 959, it was to keep the power to the ground in a more controlled manner, when they offered it on the c4 coupe in 89, it became a true year round car.
I live in Atlanta, GA and we see very little snow. I addition, my car is not a daily driver so if it did snow I surely would not be in it. So with this information, is it dumb to get the 4S? I just like the fatt **** myselt over the narrow butt, that is on my cars.
do they both have the turbo body work and brakes? is the only dif. the awd? do awd cars handle better than 2wd in the dry? i know my older porsches were prone to the **** end around syndrone if you were not real careful, what about the 996's.
that come with the wider body work? If this is the case then I want the 4S. Have you driven the 997? I did once and it seemed pretty quick and sticky. I have not had any seat time in the modern day Porsche, 996 or 997 so I have nothing to compare it to. I am trying to decide whether to get the 996 4S or a new 997S. Any help?
for 996 cars, the TT and the 4s had wider bodies. In the 997, the C4 and C4S will be wider than the Carrera and Carrera S. I think the 997S is an absolutely fantastic car, but the 996 4S is a great car, and could be a good value. I have two Certified 2003 C4S's in stock now, and am currently out of 997 S models.
