Default 997 C4S vs. 996 TT

Hi, newbie here. Do you guys think the new 997 C4S will be better in style and performance than the current 996 TT? As to power, it seems that a 355hp C4S will have a hard time catching up with a 420hp TT. Moreover, given the plain style of the new C4S (without the air intakes like the turbo), I think a 996 TT is a much more attractive car.

The TT engine alone is woth it. a proven, bulletproof block with enormous tuning potential.

I love the new 997 and it's a noticable improvment over the 996 carrrera. That being said, drive a turbo and see if that power won't corrupt you for ever. It's a hard choice, I've been in your position a few months ago and debated, maybe for two seconds, to go for the 997. The new 911 is a great car, but that 996 turbo power gets so addictive.

Good luck.

Ah yes , but that 3.8 can easily be tuned to 400 hp, then a NA 400 hp car is more attractive than a turbo lag 400 hp car , to me at least.

C4S surgeon, I would tend to agree with you on that one. I was comparing a stock 997 C4S vs. a stock 996 turbo. The turbo lag, though, is not what it used to be on these twin turbo'd cars. What I didn't like was that Porsche have again persisted in using a wet sump on the 997. But that's a whole other subject.

I thought the 996TT has eliminated the turbo-lag issue. Do you acutually feel the lag when you hit the gas? If so, how long is the lag?

honestly the lag is imperceptible. I hit the gas and start pulling. You prolly dont register .6 bar(after the customary .7 spike) for possibly 1 sec. However, the electronic boost gauge is slow to read. Around 1800rpms however, the thing has hit full stride. Unlike many turbocars, the TT still revs highn and *fast*.

I drove a 997S. It was fun and fast. then I drove a TT and it was unreal. After you factor in the readily available 100 extra hp w/ a chip and add in the fact its got a *real* engine, the choice was clear for me - I got a tt.

in the 997s favor - it IS the new body, has an nice audi-like interior and is way sexy.

I used to be an NA, RWD guy too..until i drove the turbo. Lets just say that porsches' AWD behaves like a RWD car, until you are looking for a little extra traction....
