Default Farmers Insurance

I am leasing a 997 Carrera. I have Farmers Insurance, which has a $1000 deductible and then pays 90% of the repair costs (the theory apparently is that Porsche owners are so picky on repairs, they should share a small piece of the action--sort of like medical insurance).

Anyway, we have gotten a call from Porsche Financial that the 10% arrangement is unacceptable, and that the maximum deductible cannot be more than a flat $1500. Has anyone faced a similar problem? I would hate to change insurance companies over this, since all of our cars, our house and umbrella are all through Farmers, and if one car is insured elsewhere, everything but the homeowners is screwed up, including the umbrella.

Check with other carriers, you may get a better price on the whole package.

Statefarm doesn't have any issue for 100% coverage. Call Farmers and tell them you're leaving them and see if they have another policy available.

Homeowner insurance is hard to get if you are starting with a new company. Allstate accepts new home policy I think. Most other big insurance co won't anymore due to losses.

I'm also leasing through Porsche. Try GEICO. I got a $1000 deduct. and 100% coverage for $1200 a year. They beat everyone, even Progressive by $200, who I use for my other toys. I may be switching all the toys to GEICO.

Dump Farmers!

They don't want your business.

Farmers 1000/10 deductible is one step below the 1000 dollar straight coverage one. Have you checked to see what the cost difference would be to simply change the deductible? Its about three clicks on the webbased "agency dashboard" that your agent uses if the green screen has been booted from the office window already.

Yes, but I don't think you can get an umbrella through Geico? They don't do home insurance that I am aware of... What is a couple hundred a year difference in the face of a catastrophic liability claim you never insured yourself for?

Depends on what state and area the applicant is in. Many Home carriers would love to get the business - as long as you are a bi- or tri- line customer.

SLC - Hmmm. Uh, call Nationwide if you can find it in the yellow pages. I'm not sure if the western expansion is in UT yet.
