Mine is the tan with leather, beside the chrono it's the option I like best.I didn't order it I bought off the lot (via internet).I would have been too cheap to have ordered it.But it is worth the money in comparison to my other options(bose,supple,6 cd,electric seats, heated seats).

I love the leather interior I ordered with my car, in fact I should have ordered the rear console in matching leather because it looks freaking cheap compared to the leather. I love the stiching too. I feel like I'm driving in a Coach Leather 997! The leather is also quite comprehensive, including the A pillar, the glove box, the trim around the doors, although there is no stiching its still leather. This is my first new Porsche and I've always wanted the leather dash so to me it was a no brainer to order it. I mean there are very few cars that you can even order the full leather dash, so why not get it? And really on a $80K car whats another $3K? I'm not buying the car for the next owner (resale) I'm buying it for me. So I highly recommend it.

That said, the standard plastic is a vast improvement over the 996, overtly Audiesque in quality and that is a compliment.

years ago when i heard of leather dash on boxters i thought it was really strange to do that. i then saw the boxter interior (pre200) and knew why ppl opt for leather. 997 has come far from that.

I have seen both and like both. I like what I have (of course), which is standard. If you go for the leather, than go for the full version.

I have full leather, but I think the standard dash is fine also. I could have gone with standard dash and save $3000.

What option is the full leather with the dash and such? I have been looking on Porsche's configurator but can't find the option. I see leather seats Or do you have to get the seats to get the dash?

Regarding leather: In my new '05 911 (took delivery in June) it has full leather. My wife's Cayenne has the leather seats only, with the standard dash setup. Both are OK, but for my long term 911 I really (!) like full supple leather, front & rear. So rich and the stitching is outstanding. Helps set
P-car off as upscale from other vehicles interiors. Also have leather in a 1998 Mercedes Benz SL, and quality is much better in the Porsche. Don't park in the sun all that often as it is driven mostly on w/e's.
Last w/e let me 20 year old blonde daughter drive 911 to our store in a small town of 3000. When she was ready to leave, sge could not see the car, as it was surrounded by teen-age boys looking in the car! No other car like this within 100 miles that I know of.

I was expecting a stereotypical blonde gal story with a disastrous ending.
Sheesh, I gotta hand it to you, you're a lot braver than I am. I won't even let my wife drive my 911. Not yet at least, and not any time soon. Maybe after break-in, and then with me in the passenger seat, and only up and down our street.

I went with the full leather on my September-build and have never thought about changing it. Remember how nice the full leather was on your old 6-series, MMD?

I think you will miss it if you are on the fence now and do not order it.

Unless you absolutely love it, don't waste your money .... It's a Porsche, not a Bentley!
It is on a surface that you never touch, nor does it make the car perform any better.

this is interesting since it seems to represent the "Porsche is a sports car and thus should be lean and mean v. Porsche is a GT and some luxuries are in order."

For me, I love the beauty of the full leather, and enjoy the feel of the cockpit with the leather - if that is something you want in your Porsche experience, then the $3,000 is well worth it

Don't know if this has been asked before, but is the Carrera GT a "lean and mean" sports car .... or is it a GT? ..... Hmmmm.

Texas911,
I did order the leather console to go along with my full leather order -- my thinking, like yours, was that vinal next to leather would look cheap by comparison. My console order was rejected("unavailable", no explanation)! Hence, I will get a July-build '06 997 S Cab optioned-out at about $110,000 with a plactic console.

IMHO full leather is the way to go. After spending 2 days, recently, driving 997s with vinyl interiors at the Porsche driving experience. I appreciate much more the full leater interior in my car. It makes a world of difference. So go for it!!!

I have the full leather. I was hesistant on spending the extra money on this option. After I've had for a two months now I can't imagine living without it. Get it you will not be dissapointed. If you would like pics of the dash let me know I will send them to you.
