18's on a 997 are like 2"heels on the perfect woman with gorgeous legs....just not right. 19's are like 4 inch heels on a woman....finish her off perfectly........

Sport Design wheels are unique & fine - go for them.

XLF is available NOW if your order is in a changeable status, your dealer can make that change in about two min...don't understand the "waiting to confirm with dealer statemant " refer them to Vehicle Distribution Bulletin #75 (4/21/2005)..and teach them

Jumping in late but you should consider the limited tire choices available in 19 inch sizes. The 18 inchers offer a much wider choice. The look of the wheel is subjective. I like the look of the sport classic wheel on any 911 - but's that's me. OTOH my car rides on OZ Superleggera 3 piece lightweights.

I agree wholeheartedly with texas911! I'd take the stock 997 18s if I could get them on my S. The roads suck around here: no performance advantage so why bother with the stiffness and the risk of smashed wheel? Plus they're NICE looking!!

I really didn't like the Carrera S wheel so I ordered the Carrera Classics. I like 'em.

I wasn't too crazy about the Sport Design but they are growing on me. I'm sure down the road I'll swap the rims for a set of aftermarket.

One option which I rarely hear mentioned which I ordered was the Black Guages. I know the std. silver guages on the S are different but I preferred black. They're easier to read.

Hey speed 997,

I see you are new around here so you should really be nice until we all get to know you..The sport design wheel does suck and is the ugliest thing you can put on a 911. Its a big pain in the *** to keep clean and every dealer I know says they take forever to sell a car that has them on them .....I know this guy is getting ceramics so keeping them clean might not be to hard....

As for the jack a$$ you might want to look in the mirror to get a close up view!

One will not notice a performance difference between 18 and 19 unless they are on the track.

Oh sure, the wheels are the ONLY reason they aren't selling those Porsches. Well I for one love the new wheels. Yea they're a pain to clean but so what, they lend a sense of solidness to the overall design.

Just my $0.02 but...

Just about everyone would like their car to be a little faster, yet most people miss this opportunity when changing wheels. Fitting lighter wheels can make a BIG difference.

A widely accepted rule of thumb is that 1kg of weight removed from the wheels is equivalent to 4kg off the rest of the car, in terms of performance improvement.

If you can reduce the weight of all the wheels by a total of 18kg (quite achievable), that's like removing 72kg from the car - or the weight of a passenger!

I actually removed 36kg from the total wheel weight when I upgraded - an equivalent of 144kg. That difference was certainly noticeable. Braking and road-holding also improve greatly.

I'm not suggesting that you put wheels on your car which you find totally unattractive, but looks should be of secondary importance.

This is also a reason not to put oversize tires on a car just for show. Larger tires are heavier tires.
