Default Car Transport

Can anyone recommend any good shipping companies that ship porsches cross-country? I bought my 997 from a east coast dealer, and am trying to arrange shipping to Los Angeles. The only one I've heard of is InterCity Lines. Thanks in advance for the knowledge.

Horseless Carriage is good. They pick up the Ferraris that are flown into New Jersey so they are always up there. http://www.horselesscarriage.com/

InterCity Lines one of the BEST! Handle all of CGT deliveries for PCNA and are a board sponsor.

Another choice might be: FedEx Custom Critical Passport Auto Transport.

Option #3, BEST! Road Trip, Fly out and drive home...when was the last time you really enjoyed the USA?.. Added bonus by the time you arrive home Break-in is over!

Intercity Lines shipped my BMW M Coupe from Ohio to CA in their enclosed truck directly to my house. Very professional. They really take care of the car, not a single scratch. I couldn't be happier.

I've used Passport, too. I can recommend them. They did a fantastic job.

Any ideas what this costs, say going from the east coast to Colorado? Also how long does does it usually take them to get to you? Do they usually transport several cars at once causing many stops?

fl997 - colorado i'm not sure about, but from the east coast to CA i've been quoted anywhere from $1700-$2000, and it'll take anywhere from 7-10 days. i think most shippers transport several cars at once but only lump together those that make sense.

DAS and National offer reasonable prices and reliable service. Intercity and Horseless charges about 2x. Ship it enclosed if you want a gleaming car rolling off the trailer. Ask dealer who they use and you can have it shipped dealer to dealer too.

Just used TNT to transport my GT3 to and from Chicago to Iowa- not a long way but was happy with them. But I also recommend the road trip option. One of my best memories is from bringing a 356 cab back from California to Iowa with my late father in the mid 80's. Driving across the Continental Divide with the top down in late April is hard to beat...

Whatever you do, do not go with a broker. The only negative with DAS is the car may be loaded and unload a bunch, or sit at one of their terminals for days until a truck is available to go to the area its headed, but your route should not be too much of a problem. They are in the high volume biz rather than the first class white glove biz like the others listed below. You really get what you pay for in auto transport and your car should be shipped enclosed. Intercity Lines is the exclusive carrier here in the states for the Carrera GT and other specialty moves. They have been hauling for PCNA for many years.

I would suggest you call for the best quote from any of these carriers and if you call Dave Wilson at Intercity be sure to tell him your a fellow Rennlister.

Try getting a both a Telephone quote in addition to any email quote.

September 2004 I received an Intercity online quote of around $1700 for ship from Ohio to Cali when I sold my M3.
Just for fun I made a separate inquiry by phone-- nice fellow on the phone I recall, and given the same shipping info the live human being said $1450. I was glad I called.

Online spec quote may be fully automated (?), real staff person may be in a better position to tweak for seasonal market conditions.

I've used InterCity twice for my 356B (Atlanta to Long Island) and Dino (Ft. Lauderdale to Long Island). In both instances they were the least expensive and their service was great. When you get your car will depend on their schedule and how many cars they're picking up and dropping off along the way. They do transport several cars at once and when you make your arrangements, they'll be able to give you an idea when one of their drivers will be in your area for the pick up. On the drop off, you'll generally get a day's advance notice.

Hello Guys!

We do have an online quote system which works well for after hours. You might get a better quote if you call my office in person and explain your needs over the phone. Automated quotes tend to be higher because of the lack of information. Call in person,800-221-3936, ask for Bob or Mike and don't forget to mention that you're a Rennlist member! We're here to help with your transportation needs.

PCNA has chosen Intercity as the exclusive C-GT transpot Company. We must be doing something right.

Thanks.
Dave Wilson/Pres.
