Great, so this is the fate of the 997 GT3? Sunroof, rear wiper, sport crono and wheels to big to have R compounds.
I for one actaully think these ARE pics of the new 997 GT3. It will have an awesome 3.8l 390hp engine from the current 997S and I love it. I love it for the fact that my GT1 derived GT3 car will only go up in value.
I am a little upset by what appears to be fact now. PAG has just taken a page from BMWAG and has figured out how to increase profits again, by ridding on the back of a previously amazing model. Welcome Porsche to the world of the M cars.

It was the end of Porsche as we know it when they consulted Toyota on how to build cars more profitably. That was during the developement of the 996, which also was about the time Porsche quit racing, in which they could concontrate on new models, you know, like the Cayenne.
JLJ, the reason they didn't offer adjustable suspension on the 996 GT3 was because Porsche didn't have one. But on the 997, they do. Why complain about it? It'll only make your GT3 more desireable.
I hate it when Porsche drivers derive their self worth through the model they chose.

I am not JLJ, but I take offense to that.
I am not upset that the 997 GT3 is coming out, I am far from that. I am upset over the that is does appear to be fact now that the new 997 GT3 will be a watered down version of the real thing. The GT3 should NEVER have traction control, or 19" wheels. It should be the choice of car for the hard core Porsche enthusiast who longs for bare bones, back breaking, loud, hard to drive wild stallion. The GT3 is not for the guy who needs back seats for his kids. That is what the 997S is for.
I agree with JLJ, more to the point at, what is the point of the Chrono?? This makes no sense. The GT3 is not supposed to be the cushy plush model that is now the M division of BMW. If you guys remember the e30 M3 was a harsh wicked little thing that still commands respect today. The e36 M3 lost a lot of that respect within the M commuinity but drew a huge following none the less because of the badge on its back. The e36 M3 was a great car, but was not a true M3 (here in the States) with its m50 derived engine and lack of a true S50 engine.
This I am afraid Gentleman is the ill fate of the new 997 GT3. A souped up version of the 997S.

looks like an aerokit 997S with a different rear bumper/exhaust to me.
another 996 GT3 owner here, i agree with JLJ

excellence is purely wrong. there is no way the GT3 will have 19 inch wheels, the 2005 cup car doesnt so why would the street car? also there are very limited r compound tires in 19 inch( are there any good ones in 19???) so what would be the point...
and as far as the anger issue....i just want to be held

I don't really understand the argument about wheel sizes, you can configure your Porsche pretty much any way you want when you order it and there will probably be several wheels to choose between.
I am pretty sure that this is the turbo models (three different cars) we see in these pictures because of the wider fenders, sunroof, interior shots and the fact that there is something turboish looking on on one of the cars.
