In case you haven't been looking, there already have been large price increases since the 996 introduction (previous model), combine that with cost reducing techniques and the difference is further magnified. (The weak dollar argument is bogus)

I don't think they have any room to raise prices given economy, competition etc ( as said above)

i should have put an "'" after the 7.

and the exchange rate is meaningless because porsche has paid good money to hedge that. in fact, that hedge is a large sorce of their corporate profits.

The girls at my favorite cat house have the same supply and demand price issues... they have the best supply, so they make the price demands.

Just like Porsche. Hmmm, interesting juxtaposition.

every magazine previewing the cayman has said its going to have 295HP - they are going to detune it now? they made that decision after the press previews went out?

perhaps they should just make the 997S, drop the base 997 and steer those buyers to the cayman. as others have pointed out, this segment of the market is going to get alot more crowded, especially when GM has capacity to make alot of Z06s.

If Porsche dropped the base 997 then they would need to lower the price of the 997S.

you'd probably be amazed how many people actually want a 911 over a Boxster for the back seats. and it's a shame they're gonna denad the cayman because if they'd have put a REAL dry sump instead of that fake crap in the Boxsters and 911s since '98, it really would have been something exciting.

A question and a comment

1. Porsche can ask whatever it wants to but the market will ultimately determine worth/value. (the better the new vette, the better for "us")

2. Any news on the 997 GT-3 ?

Thanks
Jack

yep, i was really impressed with the car after reading the article if only they put in a REAL dry sump instead of the fake one in all Boxsters and 996/997 (except non-turbo and GT models) which fail to do the job. the cayman s should pull considerably more lateral g's than any non GT/TT 911 given the box s was right up there and this one is going to be lighter and more rigid that that. more lateral g's though just mean a much higher likelihood of oil starvation since it has the crap dry sump.

That goes without saying for any car manufacturer.

As we were mentioning on another thread, while GM is adding a dry sump at $65 K, what is Porsche doing?
Thanks

Price increases on these models........alot of you guys are more expert than I. As one thats greatful to be able to afford one of these cars they cannot assume that I will step up to the plate just because its a Porsche and/or I'm a past owner.

The market right now has some attractive products that are better priced and the demand for there product will be effected. I saw a C6 Z06 today and its a killer, never thought I would say that about a vet, but that thing is smokin' hot. Combine that w/ a new Viper Coupe, AMV8, the worn off luster of a Ford GT and any other I may be forgetting.

Not wise to raise prices and potentially see inventory rise at the same time. The dot.com days are over and its just too risky IMO. But what do I know, they will prob. try selling a pick-up next after the Cayman and call it the "Roughman" !!!

Show me conclusive evidence with data etc about your alleged wet sump inferiority on a street driven car, not I heard , read or other BS , documentation not hearsay, and please not the " I track the car argument " because the majority of all posters on this board and that for sure includes you will never ever explore the absolute cornering limit of a 996/997 to produce oli starvation problems even driven on slicks.
