Is your 997 your daily driver?

I drive mine pretty much every day to work. We really only use the BMW when we need to haul the dogs somewhere to when we need more cargo space to pick bigger stuff up. Although it was pleasently surprising how much you can fit up front in the 997.

I LOVE my 911 - it's everything I thought it would be and so much more.

My previous Porsches were used as daily drivers (approximately 1,000 miles per month) but since getting the 997 I've become a bit more concerned about the amount of miles I could be putting on it so have (very reluctantly) persuaded myself to take the subway to work on 3 days each week to reduce my mileage. In fact over the last few weeks, the car has hardly left the garage due to the rather nasty winter weather we're experiencing in the UK at the moment. Roll on Spring!!

Just got rid of my BMW 355xi...so the 997 will be my 365 day-a-year driver. Rain, snow, sleet, etc...I will hold off on buying winter wheels/tires until next fall, though.

I agree Atlas, and for that reason I take mine out at least every other day (sometimes daily after work) and on weekends. My daily driver is a Chevy Silverado, and because it would be hard to load the 997S with ladders, dropcloths, and painting materials, its not an option for me. My dealers head mechanic told me the day I picked up my car, to redline this puppy at least once a week and drive it as often as I can because from his 25 year experience as a Porsche mechanic, he tells me that 911 Porsches driven the most have the least problems. Also, most engine failures come from downshifting into the wrong gear and allowing the car to rev to "outer limits" ripping the engine apart (no this is not covered under factory warranty). Of course most of us know how to properly drive stickshifts and avoid this error by not fully engaging the clutch under that type of condition and shifting into the proper gear. If you can't "feel" the engine/tranny/clutch/car without staring at the tach all the time, your stereo is too loud or you should be driving a triptronic and there is nothing wrong with that. Use your cars as often as you can, these cars need to be driven not babied. Cheers.

My 997S is my "daily" driver. except being mostly retired many days I don't go anywhere. I have plans to change that. I will make an effort to get out and drive. I truly love my newly installed Porsche Sport Shift Kit. Makes driving even more fun.

Driven daily.
As my independent Porsche mechanic says, these aren't going to appreciate like the classic 911s of old. And you don't want to be stuck with a low mileage car outside of warranty with one of Porsche's water-cooled motor maladies (RMS, etc.). Better to drive it hard and often, get it fixed for free, then move on to a newer one.
(He said this because I drove my last Porsche, a concours condition 911SC, less than 1,000 miles the last year I owned it.)

I have been driving mine mostly everyday now. I've put 1800 miles on it since mid Jan. This is my first 911, so I was leaving in the garage on the weekends. I found that the long hard day at the office was easily forgotten on my way home in the 911.
