Are you going to monitor the installation. If so, will you tell us how hard/easy the process of installation is?
Thank you George.

First update on NAV install. Seems the NAV was not as plug and play as the salesman described. In fact the car is not prewired in any fashion for the NAV unit. After driving 2 hours to the dealer and leaving the car it turns out they need to order a wiring harness, the GPS antenna and a few other parts. Originally salesman said it would take an 2 hours and they do them all the time. Turns out mine will be the first 997 they have installed the NAV in. So I did not bring the car home with a new toy.

I had a discussion with the GM at the dealership and he gave me his word he would personally supervise the install and expedite the return of my car (not yet sure what that means). At least they gave me a nice 04 Cayenne S to use until the 911 is fixed and since we are supposed to get snow, I will not miss my car too much.

So I will keep all of you posted as to the cars status (hopefully progress), supposed to be completed next Tuesday.

What is the production date of your car? I have a JAN 05 build and have been told that it is "plug and play, everything is already installed". Now I'm not sure I believe what I have been told.

MJones is correct but there is one more thing about the cable that you must be aware of (if your dealer runs the VIN he will know which one to get). There are several different cables offered depending on how your car is optioned out. CD changer in trunk? Bose? Standard stereo? The price for the different cables is the same so be sure your dealer runs your VIN. That's about it mine is about a month away from Sunset Porsche for about $1950.0 for the Nav Module package and about $150.00 or so for the cable. My dealer quoted me 3 hours labor for the install and programming. Don't try the install yourself as it involves placing the GPS antennae in the dash and codeing the thing to work. It will take a few hours (I'm told) to calibrate itself with your wheels before its accurate. Not quite sure what that means? Let us know how it goes?

Once again owners tend to know more about their cars then the dealers. Brandwine had a 997 Nav unit on ebay for ~$1500. They indicated all parts included and the install was "a plug and play".

Not sure I would trust the Brandywine plug and play ad, thats where I bought my car and who is doing the install.

The real problem here is you listened to your salesmen. They have ABSOLUTELY no idea about anything remotely technical on these cars. Whats even funnier is what the GM said. I doubt the GM even knows half the guys names in the service department. Even if he did what would him supervising the install do? I'm sure he knows his way around the cars.... yeah right.
