Default my 996. vs. 997 review...so far

Short report, comparo of 996 to 997.....

996 was dialed in on the suspension....A bit rough for everyday though. It was my first so I will always have a soft spot for it. I really learned to drive it and did well at the autocrosses...

996 feels much smaller inside and looks much smaller next to the 997. The 996 3.4l has to be up over 4-5k rpm's before you fell some quickness. The 997 is much faster at the lower end, seat of the pants, and sport chrono is a must! Sport chrono is awesome and you really can see a difference...Car is quicker running thru the gears...

997 is much more comfortable inside and standard seats are great for me...5"10 180lbs....The 997 handles great and i have not even done a new alignment which is coming soon...Short shift was in and is smooth but precise compared to the 997 standard shifter which is very loose....

Gotta get back to work will say more once I get more seat time in the 997....

Porsche will do an aglinment at no charge if you ask in time. As the car settles it needs one.

Robert,

Nice wheels! black is a great color for the 997

did you have pss9 on your 996? just curious to see what the handling between a modded 996 and a stock 997 would be...

can you do a run in 3rd gear from 60-100 mph and time it using a stopwatch... I'm curious at what the time would be...

regards,
Peter

okay then... lets see some 60-100 mph times in 3rd... (from a constant 60 that is... not flying in from 2nd gear)

how does the chrono work..? can you program it to measure intervals of speed?

I still have 1400 miles to go before I start redlining her, maybe Robert will run it for you... Haven't gotten into the full functionality of SC myself yet, it does seem to have storage capability though.

Gary, your car is fine to hit red line now....My dealer said 1st 1000 miles you can even hit red line just not constant or to often...

I will play with the timing of the chrono and let you know. I do know last night I punched it in third on a long stright and it pulled way stronger than the 996...

I was going to keep my '02 C2 Cab indefinitely until I drove the 997. Oh well!

so what is it exactly about the 997 that makes it "feel" so much better... is it the suspension, the chassis? I'm curious as to how a 996 with pss9 compares in the handling department... horsepower wise the cars are evenly matched... sound wise the 996 sounds like a blender unless you get a the awwesome PSE or FABSPEED upgrade exhaustl....

is the car more "solid" than the 996... does it remind you of being ina 993? do the doors close like a vault a la 993?

cheers
Pete

Chassis seems & is more rigid, suspension modifications with PASM makes the car feel like it's on rails to the point that a C4 seems unecessary.

No. I was hoping the classic Porsche door "thunk" would return with the 997, but it apparently has not. They changed the door handle design, but not the whole mechanism.

So who has those 60-100 times? Let's compare with 996TT!
