Does Sirius have commercials every half hour or so? Also, what's the best all around portable set up for car and home? Is there a good option for both?

No, Sirius was commercial-free (for music stations) from the start, then XM went commercial-free in order to compete. Audiovox makes a home/car unit for Sirius, whereby the tuner pops into a boom box at home and a bracket in the car.

I'll have to agree on the content/stations advice previously given here. I evaluated both Sirius and XM online before ordering Sirius. The music quality, whether it's classic jazz or college tunes or whatever is much better on Sirius. XM was better with traffic reports at first, but I think Sirius has narrowed the gap. Then you have to consider the other affiliations (Sirius is the NFL exlusive, and I think XM has the exclusive with MLB....).

My Cayenne came with a 90 day XM trial. I liked it and subscribed for a year...

Dealers have no choice on which one...The Manufacturer of the car has the deal with either one for putting them in the car...

Robert, Can you provide some details of your Sirius installation in your 996 - how was it installed, where is the display mounted, where did they locate the antenna and who did the work for you. Any ideas on how you would have a Sirius installed in your 997? TIA.

Let us nor forget that from '03 on the Porsche audio system utilizes the MOST bus (fibre optic), and as well there is no Aux in on the PCM head unit, nor 3rd party interface to the Bus.
The only way to make the sounds come out of your speakers at this time is via an FM modulator.

The reason given as to why Porsche is not offering a Sattelite radio for the 911 is they have not figured out a suitable antenna solution. A shark fin on the roof is totally unacceptable.

MJ, I hear ya. I have a Sirius sat radio in my Jeep which goes thru the FM radio and while it's good most of the time, at times I get some pretty bad interference, even after trying to change the FM station to which it is tuned. OTOH, I really do like Sirius and would love to have it in my new 997, but not if it's gonna be a cobbled up installation. I just wish Porsche would figure this one out. Why not an antenna under the front hood somewhere? The new BMW 645 has its antennae (NAV and Sat radio) hidden in the trunk lid - no shark fins.

You are wrong, some manufacturers offer a choice of both systems and my dealer orders with XM.

I had Sirius for a year and we recently switched to XM as that was my wife's preference (and the tow car is her ML430 daily driver). I prefer Sirius to XM but XM isn't bad. We added it via a new Alpine head unit (along with an iPod connection).
