Anyone do the 997 child seat airbag deactivation yet?
My understanding is the 997 has a new airbag deactivation system, unlike the 996/986, with a module that mounts in the space covered by the front of the passenger door and includes a key to turn on / turn off the deactivation feature. Just wondering if anyone has installed this yet. I asked about it right after getting my car, and the dealer didn't seem to know anything, and I have sort of forgotten about it since then, but I do want to install it.

I had this installed before delivery by the dealer, it is only dealer fit at the moment. I am based in the UK but there was no delay in getting the kit over here. It allows you to use the existing ignition key to turn the passenger airbags on and off. You also get an 'airbag deactivated' indicator light installed in front of the gearlever and an ISOFIX kit installed in the front passenger seat. It all works very well.

It cost about £400 to install (parts and labour). I would assume about $600 in the US. They had to remove the lower passenger dash, the passenger seat and centre console around the gear stick. I saw it half way during installation and was amazed at how much of the interior they had to dismantle. I'm suprised you can't get the kit in the US yet as we drive on the left over here and I think the kit has a different part number for the UK as a result.
I've just found the part number in the Tequipment 997 catalogue. For left hand drive cars it is: 997 044 800 10.
I hope that helps you get the parts you need.

997 044 800 10 appears to be the correct part number (hope so, because I just ordered it); they have stock in Atlanta, list is $241. My service guy says it takes about 3 hours of labor to install (which means the total cost with part would be about $600). Don't understand why they didn't make this standard equipment, as it should be, but then again Porsche Cars seem to be the masters of charging lots extra for anything and everything. (Power seats - you want power seats? That'll be $1,500 extra!!!)

$600.00 is way too much for an item which Porsche stated was standard in the first publications. I have grand children which I may have in the car and may not. The Boxster started out at about that price and now you can do it for $150.00 for parts and FREE labor at a dealer. They call it a "no charge install".
