Default 997s or CT

today i picked the options for my 997s, since the demo car was at the showroom, i decided to take it for a drive... my second time round

somehow its a bit "different" from the 1st time....actually i was a bit disappointed, i felt it wasnt as "good" as the 1st time

no doubt the 997 is a great car, but considering it costs 5 times than my current 993, i have doubt whether it is 5 times better than a 993???

so on my way home i was thinking whether i should buy a cayenne turbo instead i already have a cayenne v6 but its a bit unpower so i guess i can trade v6 for cayenne turbo

well i guess i will just as happy if buy a cayenne turbo instead of 997s

besides i can keep my 993 cos i guess once the 997s is here my 993 will have to go

pls advice....

I think the idea of the 5 times thing is flawed. I remember a guy asking a while back if the 997 was worth three 350Z's. I think you have to decide if it is worth it for you.

If you are enjoying your 993 and it is running fine and you need an SUV, then hey get the CT.

I like what the 997S offers and to me it is worth it.

I agree that you should keep the 993 type and buy a CT instead of a 997s.
if you less enjoyed the second car test, well it might be a sign for you not to buy this model.

I think you've answered your own question.

Buying a new car is one of the most financially illogical decisions a person can make. (And I'm not pointing fingers--I've done it several times myself.)

In exhange for the experience (prestige?) of owning a new car, the buyer gets whacked with depreciation, and often the new ride isn't significantly "better" than the old one. It's just different.

That said, what is money for? You only live once. If a new car is what you really want, might as well get it.

I'm not sure what I'll do for my next Porsche. The 993 Turbo is tempting, but so is the idea of a Stuttgart-delivery 997.

I think you are posing the wrong question. It's not a 997S vs a CT. It's a 997S vs your 993.

The CT may be a terrific SUV but it is an SUV, not a sports car. The CT is a particularly frivolous vehicle. I agree the V6 is underpowered, but not for long - soon PAG will introducea decent Cayenne V6. Waiting for that a Toureag is a better buy.

i guess you are right, thats the same question i kept asking myself after i placed an order for the 997s in sept

a friend of mine said this
"hey porsche does not made 993 anymore, since you gotta decent 993 why not keep it for another couple of years until you think its time to move onto a 997. You can always get a 997 cos porsche is still making them"

thats why i have hesitation to go ahead with the 997s (esp after my 2nd drive over the weekend) and thinking to get a CT and sell my v6 (cos i need a SUV)

though CT is not a sport car its pretty quick so i guess it can satisfy my need for speed in this aspect

difficult decision here.....

satisfy your need for speed with a SUV?????

if you only like going fast in a straight line....get the Tug.

BTW, It may have been I who wondered whether a 997 is worth 3Zs.

That was before I understood the porsche thing - its a luxury car..deal with it!
A C6 vette may offer the same numbers on paper...but IMO the 997 is *still* worth the extra premium.

If you like your 993 - keep it.
Cayenne Turby...(hell cayenne...) Uggghh!

Just my $.02

A Cayenne turbo is not a sports car but it is a blast to drive. I still smile every time I drive it.
Keep the 993 and get a CT. It will be night and day versus your Cayenne.

Thumbs up My data...

I've discovered that the Carrera S becomes a different animal after break-in so I wouldn't over-emphasize the test drive. Too many variables, did the dealer's teenage car kid put 88 octane in it? Did the last guy to test drive it burn the clutch with a 6000 RPM plate spin? Is it broken in? Etc.

My opinion, without reservation, the 997 S is worth every penny. Three Nissans or ten Nissans. I put 100,000 miles on a Lingenfelter Corvette and a BMW M3 in combination before the 997 S. 997 S EASILY is the most fun driver's experience ever and by far the best built car. It is amazingly well priced I think.

At the other end of you question I have Cayenne S experience, too. I drive a Cayenne S when it snows or in the aftermath of snow. This Cayenne S replaces a GMC C3 Denali AWD pickup and a Cadillac SRX AWD V8 and even with fewer gadgets the Cayenne S is TWICE the 4 wheeler, twice the truck, twice highway cruiser and I don't even have really winter tires on it. The Cayenne S is fantastic, so fantastic that, God forbid I should ever have to just own one of them, if I had to choose at gun point I'd happily drive the Cayenne S everyday... snow, sun, highway, mountain twisty, whatever. There is nothing like it.

Now, a Cayenne Turbo? That makes it even simpler... but the best would be just to buy both.

Get rid of the V6 and buy yourself a CS or CT and get the 997 as well. Heck keep the 993 as well. You only live once

Keep the 993 and the SUV you have now - why spend the money just to have a different version of the same thing? I'm playing devil's advocate here. You have a 993 which is probably the "favorite" 911 derivative. Why get rid of it for a luxury car? I say that because if you compare what you have with the 997, the 997 will appear radically different from what you have. Plush and posh, computer screen, suspension that thinks for you and changes how the car rides.

As to changing your SUV - what's the goal - to get to 60 in a few 10ths faster?

I'm a "new car" guy - just the way my dad was and the way I've been. That's why the 997 is on top of my list when my M3 business lease is up. Else, I'd be looking at finding a cherry 993 (well, maybe a 996TT - nice balance on the track).
