Default Phone for 997 S

Just an update because I posted about this a month ago. On the car configuration web site they now have a slot for the integrated phone option. The don't have a name or price for it yet but the option is now there. So I assume this option should be available any time now. Has anyone heard anything more on it from there dealer?

Quite possible in the VERY near future (Dec), seems that some dealers have been receiving cars with the euro faceplate complete with active sim card slot. An additional piece of hardware will be required to make it active.

As with other mfgs, the phone most likley will be carrier specific..my best guess would be Cingular/ATT but it could be any GSM/sim provider

Stay tuned

yeah...2 serperate dealers have mentioned that they have personally used the SIM card functionality and can say that the integration is great. How much of that is just sales talk...I don't know...but the phone unit would have to be "unlocked" for any phone company SIM card to work. It will be interesting to see how the phone book appears on the NAV screen and whether voice dialing is an option.

joshbw@erols.com asked:
Are you aware if the phone option will be a tequipment option as well?
If you get the 997 PCM with the SOS button and Sim card drawer the phone module should be available thru US tequipment, it is listed in the euro tequipment catalog, just as the Nav retro is available..

A bluetooth wireless connection between cell phone & car would have been a more up to date scenario. The Japanese manufacturers figured it out, IMO
