Default 997 S and 19 inch tires

Question about driving every day with the 997 S and it's 19 inch tires. I am getting my 997 S in January. Before I say anything else my boxster or my 997 never come out of my garage when the roads aren't clear as a bell. Currently I am driving a 02 Boxster S with 17 inch tires. I drive 35 miles to and from work every day to NYC. I know what you are thinking but it's not all that bad. I only have to be on NYC streets a total of 2 blocks all day other then that it is a relatively smooth FDR drive for me and decent Highways the rest of the way. I usually don't have to worry about any monster pot holes or anything like that. But like anywhere else there is the occasional hard bump here or there that is unavoidable. I haven't had 19 inch tires before and was wondering what the true skinny on using tires like this every day on good to decent roads will be. I have heard about bubbles that form and then about blowouts if you really hit a crater. In 3 years of driving into NYC I have yet to hit a crater so not really worried about that. More interested in the reliability of the 19's as a whole on roads that some times can be less then perfect but certainly not a disaster. Also my dealer tells me my car is in stage 10 preproduction. I have a December build anyone have any idea when I should be receiving my build date??

It should take about 30 days to get the car after it is completed. Mine was complete October 14 and I will see it on the 11th or 12th. I do not see any concern on the 19". Find out what tires will be on the car and ask a dealer.

I'm sure that they will ride just fine. The 19 inch wheels will be fitted with 40mm profile tires (or so I've been told). The current 996 18" wheels are fitted with 30mm profile tires.

I have the 997 Carrera with the option 19" Carrera S wheels. they come with Michelin 235/35 19 fronts and 295/30 19's rear. They Look great and ride firm. Great cornering! Better then the Sport Design 19". 18"'s use 40 series tires in front(235) and back(265). So the 19" are wider tires in the back.

I have a 997S. Bought a warranty that covers tires and wheels for 5 years for $349. Covers any sort of damage. Wheels/tires can be purchased from any source.

DD694 - This is interesting. I actually have not heard much about this. Can I ask who sold you the wheel and tire warranty.

Rasta- Since the 997 has no spare... what a perfect oppertunity for the dealers finance guy to sell you a little something extra..

Don't believe the finance guy - read the fine print first

can't help with your fine print, but my dad got a wheel warranty on his 7 series for a few hundred bucks and they have replaced 2 tires no questions and one wheel

it was pretty amazing that is was only like 200 bucks...gives him good piece of mind as the tires and wheels are pretty expensive on that thing

so i think the warranties are pretty good, but then again I don't know your exact warranty right

I had a 19" wheel go bad on my Cayenne. You know, you have a spare all your life and never need it. I get a car w/o a spare and I have 3 different problems (multiple flats, out of round, etc). I ended up buying a Take-off wheel from Wheel Techniques and use the slightly out of round (7 oz to balance) as a spare. My 997S (delivery this Thursday) shouldn't be a issue with the much lower weight. (I hope).

FYUI: That number is the aspect ratio - not a measurement in mm. If your tire is 295 with a 30 aspect ratio, the sidewall should be about 88.5mm tall.

Yeah, I know, but I wasn't sure what unit of measurement to use, so I took a shot at millimetres. I realize now that the aspect ratio is calculated by dividing the section height by the section width, and then multiplying by 100.

Regardless, I was wrong. The 997S rear 19s are mounted with tires with an aspect ration of 30, not 40.
