Default Valentine 1 and 996 obsolete!!!!

Wow, 997s is a special car...Tremendous power, grip and agility. You guys should stop fooling yourselves about any 996 designations because the old car is justthat OLD!!!! (and inferior and I have driven them all with the exception of the GT2) Yes the front fascia is old, the interior is old, and even the handling is not in the same ballpark. The 996 is simply a "dated" machine so let it die.
....I also hear all the ranting and raving about the V1 radar detector but eveyone I know who has one has also received tickets...I have received 2 on the NY Thruway and the unit never even went off(and yes it was on).....This detector NEEDS an upgrade badly so it can detect "POP" or whatever the NY State Police is catcching us with. I called Val 1 twice and no upgrade is available yet....so after a year wait I finally decided the v1 is JUNK so (6 months ago) I bought a Bell Professional RX-65 and it is so superior to the V1 I am confused why any Porsche owner would allow this junk in their beloved machines...the unit can also be flashed for future upgrades and will also hook up to Bells laser diffuser to give active jamming...This system is far superior to Escorts orthe outdated K40 (see www.speedzones.com or www.radartest.com and do not forget about using VEIL)!!!!!!!

As a person who has driven them all, I agree. The 996 really does look dated and the handling is not in the same league as the 997S. As for your comment on the Valentine 1, I Dumped mine too........ The radar detector is JUNK... The Bel RX-65 is the radar detector to own....

never had any problems with my V1, no tickets - most NYS troopers use Ka or laser.

well, this is apparently what Valentine has to say. Basically, it sounds like the tickets are being issued using faulty readings. Not that the courts care of course, until some cases are filed and some experts brought in:

You are doomed with laser, instant on (POP) and aircraft no mater what detector you use.

Guess it's back to good situational awareness

out of curiosity... how does a 996 with PSS9 suspension compare to a stock 997... not the 997S;

they say the handling of the 997 (non-S) is very good; but people who have PSS9 say they are driving a "different car" let's compare apples to apples here... the S is more $$$

997man.....yep, for your second post on Rennlist, that kind of subject line should get noticed.

Val 1's are not really "junk", but you are welcome to your opinion.
As for your wealth of experience in "driving them all"....and suggestion to 996 owners that their cars are inferior, dated, old, and they should let them die........well, I'm sure they appreciate that imformation.

GreggT,

I aggree with what you say above.... that's why I asked the question of the PSS9 suspension and a comparison of a 996 with this setup vs a 997 (non-s); to ascertain the value of the upgrade and comparing it to a 997 which is 10's of thousands to upgrade to.... any takers?

I'm sure that the 997 is a fabulous car, but I prefer the looks of the 996. My car handles like a dream and I have no intention of letting it die. NO Porsche should EVER die.

Hmm... read the article on www.speedzones.com... they declared the Escort x50 the winner, so I'm not sure that I follow the slams on Escort and V1...

As a rule of thumb, technology will continue to improve every year... soon the latest and greatest will become yesterday's technology. It doesn't mean that the 996 or V1 is now a POS. Rather, there may now be better performing products if you are willing to pay to play. In reality, the 996 or V1 technology is still very good by all other modern standards... the 997 and RX-65 are just "better" for a price.

997 is a great car, but you may want to be careful in implying that anything older sucks. I'd still rather drive a 10 yr old Porsche than a Mitsu EVO that can whoop a$$ for half the price. Porsche technology will age with grace, where as this year's EVO will surely be trumped in performance and written off in 3 years. I suppose the same analogy can be made to the V-1.

BTW, I don't own a V-1...

And 997man..........back on your slam of Val 1.
I have them in 5 vehicals....custom mounted with remotes........they've saved me tons of money (just back from a 3500 mile trip WI to VA & back).........I enjoy using them......they are certainly not 'junk'.......they are upgradable (as I've done several times).

Valintine has been shipping new V1's with POP for some time. Yes , they're working on the POP upgrade.
BTW, BEL and Escort only cover POP on Ka band. Val gets
it on K and Ka.
Do you have the Bel aleady?......how are the faults?
I've heard some people turn off the POP because (on either of those 2 units) it generates so many faults.......think I read that out of the box they even had it disabled.

I'll keep my 'junk' for now.

I venture to say that in my crappy old, dated, 996 I could stay close to the average driver in a 997s...

A comparable driver would have a slight advantage over me in time and a major advantage in spending more money than I did!!!!!!!!!!!!

This guy is a bit over excited and I am also glad to have another expert on Rennlist as well..........

Isn't this fun!!!!
