Default Front Licenes Plate

Just curious about other owners experiences with driving with out a front license plate in the North East. Obviously it is a crime to bolt a tag to the front of the 997s and I have absolutely no intention of doing so. However technically this is against the law and was wondering if anyone else out there has been pulled over or harassed about not having the tag bolted to the front.

in some states its also a crime (albiet a mild, slap-on-the-wrist one) to NOT use a license plate

however, i am in the northeast, CT/NY/NJ/PA and have driven without a front license plate on any of my cars for 3 years.

police don't even add it on to the ticket if they've pulled me over for something else, much less pulling me over for this exclusively.

no problemo, bumperplugs from bumperplugs.com and have a nice day

While the requirement of a front license plate does vary from state to state, to the extent that your state requires it, I wouldn't be as cavalier as Moogle is suggesting. A number of my Ferrari friends (including myself) have been pulled over in the New York area as we enter and exit the city by the local Bridge & Tunnel police for not having our front plates. Does it affect us? No. Is it a non-moving violation? No. But it's an $84 (?) fine, and it gets noted somewhere. Plus it is a big suck up on time.

Bear that in mind the next time you're dashing somewhere in that lovely non-front-plated car of yours.

I think in CT you didn't have to have one but the law may have changed.

you have to have one in CT, i looked it up, but more than half of the cars out there don't have them

sure its an excuse for the cops to pull you over, but tehy could something else out of their azz anyway, like the good ol' broken taillight or something.

im just telling my experience, don't let them drill a hole in the beautiful bumper if you don't have to.

It's not worth the trouble. Mount the plate w/o a frame and w/ a transparent cover. It may look sharp actually.

I don't run a plate and have only been pulled over once in many years. I hate the way a plate looks on the nose.

i got a 'fix it' ticket this past summer for not having a front plate. i missed the deadline to mail in proof of correction by two weeks, and it went from $0 to a $600 fine and suspension of my license!?! moral of the story--especially if you reside in california--just put your front plate on.

Putting a 25 cent piece of brightly colored alluminum
on the front of a $100K minor work of art is sacrilege.

In the MD/VA/DC area front plates are required but I don't have one on my 993 or the BMW. Just hate the look of the front plate. Never been harassed about it but I would suggest when you park it you place the front tag on the dashboard. I've heard of police ticketing parked cars for this issue.

That is very good advice, thank you. I live in CT where I know you have to have it however there are so many hi performance cars in my town that don't have front tags I think at least my town has given a leanyent outlook to it.

I'm in CT too and the law says you have to have a front plate (that's why they give you 2!). I've never been pulled over...

that argument is only good if your car didnt have the holes predrilled, which i understand on the 997s, they stopped doing at the factory.

i was a few hours too late when i took delivery of my BMW m3, and they drilled the holes into my bumper,... i was Pi$$ed off, but i got another 500$ off the car because i whined so much abuot it... haha

i've neverr had a problem in CT for anything, the cops are some of the most friendly people, since usually the worst cases they get are the occaisional neurotic housewife in an SUV.

NY... thats another story. buncha rabid weasels

Default Holes in Bumper

Same story here... I have the 2nd plate in the trunk and my bumper is not drilled, nor is there any mounting hardware. If I get pulled over I can honestly say "What am I supposed to do" and show them I have the plate but with no way to mount it... Hope the 997S comes that way...
