For what it's worth, I insure with USAA and live in Florida. The premium for my 997S went up less than $100 for the year over my 03S Boxster - same coverage. My policy identifies the "Model" as a 911 Carrera. Go figure.

baboou -

Would you mind me asking what your premium is for USAA in Florida?

I also have USAA, and was quoted $2,096 for a base Carrera here in NJ. I'm 35 and have a spotless driving record.

My State Farm agent asked me to come by and get a picture of the car taken to "prove" that it wasn't a Turbo, despite what the VIN implies. That's ridiculous, and hopefully PCNA will alert all of the insurance agents. Amazingly, even though it shows up as a Turbo on my insurance statements, the rate isn't that bad, and as many have said, it's not much more than a Boxster...

I think USAA may also have a problem. I just got a quote and a 997 base vin was quoted $100 more per year than my 02 C4s, however, a 997s VIN was $500 more per year (I am currently paying $1000/year so it is pretty big increase). I think I USAA may have the "VIN" problem. Anyone have an update??

Hmm, glad I read this. My USAA is just over a grand($1061 per year, full coverage) and the car is listed as a 911 Turbo. I thought it strange that it was higher than my '01 360 Modena. Hopefully an adjustment and refund are in order

Your USAA rate is still pretty good...is your car a primary driver, or "pleasure only"?

It's pleasure only and fourth vehicle including a motorcycle.

Whoa, before everyone goes calling them up, I did and found that a Carrera(and higher performance Carrera) is more expensive then the 911 Turbo that it is listed at. $725 every 6 months. I was unable to give a VIN so it was a ball park quote. The guy said that with a proper VIN of a regular Carerra the quote would probably be closer to the $530 I am presently getting. I think I'll leave sleeping dogs lye

You can get a VIN from ebay for both the S and the regular.

Good point, but I don't think I'll bother if you know what I mean

FYI, I just got through a multi-week discussion with USAA. For my 02 C4S I would pay 20% more for a 911 turbo and 50% more for a C2S. Clearly the 997S is the more exotic car *grin*.

They get their information from ISO. Hopefully this will get resolved eventually or I will be paying insurance like I am driving a ferrari...

As a State Farm agent, I can enter the VIN and rate the car manually. Pretty standard stuff with new models of any make. It's just a matter of knowing when to do it the hard way.

Happy holidays!

Bill (paying about $950/yr with high limits/deductibles for my old tt)

I agree with BillP. Its just the difference between an agent or CSR that chooses to actually do some work for a "quote" (I hate that word) or a vehicle addition.

Thats what the manual rate books are for.

AAA agents are employees. I wouldn't expect much.
