Default Auto Spies Exclusive: 2007 Facelift for Porsche 997 in the works?

Direct quote from Autospies.com

Dear 001,

If you think the 2007 face lifted 997 will raise the performance stakes further than they already have, you would be right.

The 400-bhp development models are hitting 0-60 in under 4 seconds and topping 200-mph as standard.

As for the GT and Turbo models, they will make Ferrari 430 performance look like a GM truck.

All this, plus their new 6&7-speed DSG style semi-automatic gearbox are just over two years away.

By then, base price will probably be $99K. Who can afford?

but to sell 15,000 cars a year in the US - they can't push the base price to that level. From a marketing perspective, I would think they would be better off getting a DSG option in place because sales of the outdated Tip model are going to lag - and leaving the higher performance engines for the more exotic variants like the GT and the turbo - which can command higher prices.

Porsche is already overprice. They don't really care about the starting price as long as people are still buying them at that range.

In two years I will be celebrating a "special" birthday and will be treating myself to my first (and only) 911. Bring on those 400 horses!

perhaps. but even people "with money" are frugal. case in point, about 6 blocks from me, there is (was) a guy with a 996 in his garage - I would see the car alll the time. last week I passed by - he's got a brand new blue Subaru WRX STi in there.

Why would they facelift the car after two years and they haven't even gauged public response to it yet?

I doubt it would be a "cosmetic" face lift, but perhaps with Porsche's rumors of returning to racing, they wish to push the 997 line to the leading edge, ala a 997 Turbo that will smoke a "prancing horse"?

Just speculation as usual

My thoughts exactly. And Porsche isn't known for running a 'facelift' every couple years. Surely they would at least want to gauge the response to the current design before investing in retooling for a facelift.
