when is the DSG coming?
anyone guess when the DSG will be in the 997, perhaps for the 2006 model year?

I don't think they are going to sell that many 2005 cars with the 5 speed Tiptronic.

I believe the 5 speed Tip is a $3400 option (that's alot). What does SMG cost on an M3? They should be able to deliver the DSG for about $3500 also.

recently i read the porsche engineers denied any involvement on such a transmission, but it makes sense to dump the weak auto/tip for the next generation transmission being used on f1 cars to ferraris. don't get it why they don't do this especially since i believe porsche was one of the pioneers of this dsg technology years ago.

better that they get to debug it in the audis and VWs first.

DSG should premier as the "auto option" in place of 'TIP' on the Turbo model in alte 2006-7 -depending on how sales of the early 997s go.
i'm not sure the DSG will replace tip entirely, but it may be the only 'auto' option on higher models such as the turbo/GT3.
my guess is the tip will remain, in 5 or 6 speed forms in the lower models, and cayenne, and will costabout $1000 less than the DSG gearbox

i think they may find that the mix of Tip/manual 997s is tilted more towards the manual then historic buying patterns have previously been. I think buyers in this segment have come to expect an "F1 style" box, and will be reluctant to buy a traditional automatic transmission on a car like this. if a TT can get the DSG, why can't a 997?

Just got the AutoSpies email (which I don't give a lot credence to), but FWIW to quote from their source: "All this, plus their new 6&7-speed DSG style semi-automatic gearbox are just over two years away."
(They also claim a 997 2007 makeover in planning with 400HP engines and 0-60 under 4 secs, top >200mph).
