Getting a little play in one. Indy says the rack must come out to the tune of 7 hrs labor to replace. FCP video shows replacement without removing rack. Which is right?

Thanks

I just did the job on my 997.1 and I find it hard to believe it's a 7 hour job that requires the removal of the steering rack on a 997.2. Just need a ball joint popper, inner tie rod removal tool, and that oetiker clamp tool for the inner boot clamp along with regular tools. Even with the oetiker tool it is a pain to get to the clamp.

Mine is not a c4s. The tie rod sits forward of the knuckle, and so I wouldn't expect the axle to be in the way when performing the replacement. The one impact I can see it having is limiting how far you can turn the knuckle out of the way with the tie rod disconnected. Not having much luck finding a picture of a c4s front suspension to see if the axle could somehow be an issue.

Count me as another vote in favor of the FCP method, I have a C4 and didn't need to remove my steering rack to replace my tie rods. And the seven hour quote is probably correct if they're pulling out the rack but is otherwise an overestimate.

I replaced tie rods on a 997.1 C4 without removing steering rack? I remember the inner clamp was hard to get on, but was able to get it.
