Default Inner Door Sill Wrap

I have seen folks prepping and painting their 997 inner door sills, and that works pretty well. I had another idea that I wanted to share, which is to wrap them with 3M 2080 Dead Black vinyl wrap. I have had some experience installing my own PPF, but had never tried the vinyl before this. All I did here is sand out any deep scratches with 320 wet/dry, then clean with alcohol and apply the film. The 2080 goes on dry, and because it uses an air-release glue technology it is very forgiving. You do need a heat gun and a sharp Exacto knife or a safety type razor blade. I don't know how it will hold up yet, but I'm quite pleased with the results. I think other interior parts could be wrapped also. Here are some before and after photos. This took about an hour per side.

This is typical of the shape both sills were in.

This is after light sanding with 320. If you dont, the scratches will show through the vinyl.

For the storage bin I did not wrap all way down, I just folded it around the edge and used a razor to cut it evenly about 1/4

Thanks, I’m hoping it holds up better than paint. I’m not sure I have the skill set to get this good of result with leather, but it sounds like a fun challenge. I’ve seen the ones done by Classic 9 and they look great.

Looks good. How does the wrap hold up to foot scuffs and other contact compared with the factory plastic?

I have not installed them yet, but I’ll report back on how they hold up when I get a little time on them.

I did something similar with some carbon fiber-look wrap. It's holding up very well ~4 years later. Much more durable than the original finish, that's for sure!

If you still want it painted you could always add clear vinyl afterwards.

Yes, and the clear vinyl would hold up well. But I think it might look too glossy even with the satin clear type. I chose the specific vinyl I used because it matched the interior so well.
