Default 997.2 C4S P2414 code

Just got a P2414 on my 2009. Some sources describe it as O2 Sensor Exhaust Sample Error Bank1 Sensor 1, while others as Oxygen Sensor Before Catalytic Converter (Bank 1 Sensor 1), and finally my ODB reader shows it as oxy sensor ahead of cat b1 on air.

Which is the best description of the code:
  • An anomaly in sample readings (many possible causes) or
  • Bad readings from O2 sensor before the cat (most likely bad O2 sensor)?

I would clear the code and see if it returns. If it comes back just replace the O2 sensor.

Pre-cat codes are better to get than codes on the post-cat... when that happened to my 996 I needed new cats.

Yea, I cleared it and it came back next day. I see. Bank 1 is driver's side, correct?

Last question: how do Bosch replacements generally do? Shelling out 400$+ for OEM doesn't feel right. Either way, I've ordered a Bosch 16145 off RockAuto for 77$ and will report back after replacing it.

I believe the factory OEM is Bosch and ya buying OEM from a dealer sometimes feels like you're getting your face ripped off. However my take won't be the popular opinion: I have been burned too many times buying aftermarket parts so now I only buy OEM parts from Sunset Porsche. They are a real Porsche dealer and sell at a cost + fixed margin. But you may have good luck with the cheaper part...worst case you can return it and try a OEM sensor if it doesn't workout.

Well, naturally, I got the downstream sensor instead of upstream (before cat). Bosch 17222 is the correct part (120$ shipped from RockAuto). Installed, reset ODB2 and the code hasn't come back. This sensor is so easy to replace that I don't have a problem going with a cheap part.

Thanks all!
