Default What a fantastic car 997.1S

I have a 2006 C2S cabriolet.
it has 99k on the body
it has 200 miles on a freshly rebuilt 3.8.
i just replaced the pasm suspension, a different thread.

just brought it to the stealership for a factory alignment.

what an absolutely amazing drive home.
great power, solid shifting, handles like a go-kart now.

i now understand what the Porsche engineers intended with this car.

just amazing.

Why the new motor?

Did you have to replace it?

Well done ! Enjoy the car into the future !

My 07 C4S cab needs tires and I am cheaping out at the moment ! I am sure it will seem like a different car after fresh rubber .

I like not caring how hard I scrub em in corners !

Can you elaborate? Why? Something obviously went very wrong for it to need a rebuild before 100k

it had the beginnings of bore scoring, all fixed now.

I have another thread on this but in summary, I replaced the control arms, tie rods, struts and all the rubber parts included in the strut assembly.

all the rubber, after 100k was all slightly bad, broken or worn. When all new, it’s magic now.

the full kit from FCP was just shy of 2k
i did the work myself because I have a lift and tools to do it.

i did have to go to harbor freight (so sad) to buy an inner tie rod “wrench” because access to that part is super restricted.

Do you have photos of the scoring that you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Not worth diving into a touchy subject but here are my thoughts.

In my experience there is one 911 motor that was designed to hold up after 100k miles and that was the 3.2 Aircooled motor from 1985
i happen to own one with 250k on it, and it’s fine.

otherwise
Head studs, cooling, and cylinder wear, valve guides etc plagued every other engine.
i approached this one the same way.
The 3.8 used an inferior cylinder plating technology, as well as 5-6 other inferior designs that are really well explained and documented by experts in the market.

i saw the scope results, i chose to fix the engine
the car, as i am super happy to talk about now….is well worth the effort.

i still have a 3.2 aircooled cab that is awesome, yet in a much different way.

the 997S, with a rebuilt engine, gives me all the confidence I need to drive it like I stole it, after proper engine break in period, like these cars are meant to be driven.

all the design errors from the motor have been addressed , modified, or changed to incorporate all the market expertise devising tested solutions….so I’m good with that.

That picture shows borescoring way past the beginning phase. I bet you have sooty black exhaust pipes and high oil consumption.

Do you have a couple links to threads about the engine rebuild and suspension refresh?
