If you want the x51 RF car I can help to get you a good deal on it.
Value wise 996 would be worth more but mileage may hinder that a bit. Outside of value- it’s cooler, coupe, unique color, wide body, stunning… I would pick that hands down.

Having owned a 996.1 and now a 997.2 there is no way I would want to sit in a 996 again.
To me the interiors are night and day, the 996 feels pretty plastic inside.
At lease the 996 C4S gets rid of another gripe I had with my 996, the anemic rear end, it’s the best looking 996 for sure.
996 C4S should do better long term depreciation wise over a 997.1 Cab, if you’re concerned with that.

Ha, of course.
To your Q above, not sure the X51 is going to matter IMO.
I personally can’t even feel a difference in acceleration on the street between a 997.2 C2 and 997.2 C2S, which I drove back to back when shopping.
Even though for most forum members it’s S or bust, the model chiseled by Zeus himself and given to mere mortals as a model designation worth mentioning on every post made on the forums, even when discussing which blinker bulbs to get.
Id say if you want more power, look towards a Turbo.

Even though we are in the 997 forum and I am a 997 owner, I would go for that 996. Just has more pop when you lay eyes on it. It's a rare PTS, its wide body, and basically seems to have all the things that if someone were to buy a 996, you would want. But also is the IMS done?
If you don't go for the 996 let us know where it is so someone can scoop it up!

This is hard. In general for me:
coupe > cab
color > black (midnight blue is dark enough not to be a color)
997 > 996
I don’t know what the mileage difference is, but age (read maintenance) should be considered. Good luck, tough call.
Edit: see the mileage in the poll, so tough I didn’t even vote, so I missed that.

if you go for the 996 just have to get the IMS done immediately I would think.

I love my .2 GTS 6-speed cab, but that particular 996 is the first one that really took me back, it's quite stunning. It really is unique with that color - compliments the fried-egg headlight profile for the first time I've seen.
If it checked out, I would buy it, and if you don't like it after a few years, I'm sure you won't lose $ when you sell and flip back to a cabriolet.

for a daily driver the 997 will be a bit harsher than the 996, which I think feels more like a touring car maybe closer to your older boxster.
I find the tire noise in the 997 to be pretty loud, often I am repeating everything I say to a passenger, and we are both saying What? a lot.
