Default Right side exhaust smoke 997.1 S

Hello everyone.

I have a 997.1 Carrera S that has a puff of bluish white smoke on cold start. It comes out of the right side (passenger side) only and it’s just a puff, doesn’t even last a second. It doesn’t smell like burning oil, and the car runs perfectly fine. It only does this after it’s been sitting for hours. For what it’s worth, this started happening after I got caught in a torrential downpour in the car, could the rainwater have something to do with it?

any help is appreciated, thanks

Also I just recently had the oil changed…could they have overfilled it?

Does it do this all the time or once in a while ? What does your oil level indicate - should be down at least one notch from totally full when cold and on a nice flat surface . Could be your AOS going south. I would take it for a good rip to see if it continues to do the same thing. Once in a while is normal for ours cars but all the time is not.

it does this on cold starts, for example after sitting overnight. Oil reads as full. I’ll take it for a spirited drive here soon, hopefully that clears it up.

It's totally normal, don't worry about it too much.

Oh oh.... go to 18:50 for tailpipe symptoms... if your car continues to smoke on and off from one side, you may have an issue. It really shouldn't do that. Rarely, it will blow some smoke on startup due to the car sitting at a slant or starting and shutting the car off right away. But it should not be a common event.

You may want to scope the engine from below. See the next video in his series after the one above.

Good luck.

Peace

What does oil reads as full mean? Is the segmented gauge completely full, or is it up to the top arrow?

It's the gauge is completely full, you're overfull and now way to know by how much and that can cause what you're seeing and can also damage the AOS membrane. You want to be no higher than the top arrow and 1 full segment down from that is even better.

Is your exhaust stock where it still has the crossover cats - bank 1 exhaust exits on the Right and bank 2 exhaust on the left or has someone changed the cats? If stock, that means the smoke is being generated by cylinders 1-3 on the driver's side (US car).
