Default 997.2 engine rattle when cold??? Help

My 2010 Carrera S 997.2 PDK is making this weird rattling noise with a mildly rough idle, both of which go away when the car is warmed up. Seems to be coming from the top right of the engine. Any ideas before I take it in??

Loose spark plug that tightens up with heat?? Just a wild idea.

Could be a sticky hydraulic lifter. Get a mechanic's stethoscope, see if you can localize the sound. If it's a lifter you should be able to tell which cylinder by listening at the head.

That actually sounds like a pulley on the serpentine belt run to me. Remove the airbox, remove the belt and spin and wiggle the pulleys to see which one either spins freely (they shouldn't free spin like a fidget spinner and should stop on their own fairly quickly). There shouldn't be any wobble.

Once the grease in the bearing heats up and the ***** expand, the noise goes away, but it can fail catastrophically if you let this go very long once the noise starts.

THis metal bearing that's part of my supercharger setup failed and got so hot it melted the serpentine belt pulley adjacent to it.

2009 C2S 193K miles

What Pete and Wayne said... something to do with the belt tensioner pulley. Remove the airbox and using a 30mm wrench, pull the tensioner over to loosen the belt. I will bet the spring loading or something is faulty. You will need to apply a good amount of pressure on that wrench to pull the tensioner over... sounds to me like it is not applying enough tension on the belt.

Thank you so much guys. The car is still under CPO warranty (last 6 months possible for a 2010 per Porsche) so I'm taking it in and will definitely pass on what you guys said to the mechanic. I'll make sure to post the end results here. Thanks again

I was thinking timing chain and that you should not operate the car until you check to ensure there is no tensioner debris in the oil filter media, but this pulley bearing seems more likely.

It was the throttle body! A gear on the right side was skipping teeth. It was causing the noise and the burning smell!

See the video below and look at how awesome this multipoint inspection was from Porsche Long Beach. I am blown away by their service! Same day everything with a loaner (as an aside, I hate the new Panamera because it's so boring by comparison lol).
