Default Real leather?

Leather A pillar

I have a base interior in my 2010 997.2 S.
Been updating it piece by piece with
leather parts, seats, side panels, A pillars,
hand break, etc. Recently purchase a used
glove box advertised as leather. After receiving
it I question if it is indeed leather. All the
leather pieces I have purchase prior to the
glove box were smooth, with no texture.
this box looks like the one that came with the base
interior. It has a textured appearance.
How can I verify that this is/isn’t leather?

New “leather?” Box

Hopefully it is leather - but it looks like vinyl to me.

I told the seller, specializedgerman, that it most certainly is not leather. They didn’t question me and promptly refunded the purchase price. Told me to keep it or throw it away. 🤔 Maybe it is leather?

NO, not leather. Leather has a smoother finish than this.

Not leather. That is vinyl. Common to see people sesell Porsche interior items and assume they are leather.

The way to tell on anything is to press in with your finger. Natural hides will show little creases/folds. Press the skin between your thumb and forefinger and you’ll see it. Vinyl just bends, no folds.

Ideally you look at the back to see. I did see a good video a while back that explained the differences of various leather grades and vinyl. Very low grade leather is very similar to vinyl as it have a lot of plastic on the surface. But Porsche don't use the lowest grade of leather, so I think it is vinyl. Having said that the top picture looks better and more like the leather in my car
