Default Looking for Opinions. Upgrade from 2005 997.1 to 997.2?

Hi-
I have a 2005 911 Coupe with 100,000 with manual in good condition. Found a nice a 2009 997.2 convertible S with manual with 103,000 miles.

Dealer is offering me my car, plus $23,000 all-in.
Does that sound too high?

Thanks.

Might be.

Is your 997.1 a C2 or C2S?

Have you sorted the IMS Bearing with the IMS Solution or some permanent solution?

Normally like for like (body style/transmission/drive wheels) the jump from a 997.1 to a 997.2 is about $10k-$15k.

The jump from an CX to a CXS is about $10k-$12k.

BTW a dealer will absolutely hose you on a trade value on an older 911. I would personally sell it private party or sell it on BaT.

Also, are you wanting a cab?

Default 997.1

My 05 is a C2. Had the IMS fix installed and runs and drives very clean.

I’ve tried to sell it privately- but I am screwed. CarFax shows no accident. AutoCheck shows accident with airbag deployed. I’ve tried to resolve but no luck. I truly believe AutoCheck is wrong.

I can’t see bringing in nice price as a result. Lesson learned- order both services. I assumed Carfax was good enough when I bought it.

Thanks.

I'd also consider a lower mileage 987.2 Cayman S. But if you want a 911 and you like the one you're going after, go for it!

Convertibles bring way less money. Your 997.1 is probably worth the same as a 997.2 convertible or maybe more. In real life

Guess I'd have to see both cars to accurately assess that value equation.

The inaccurate repair history is a bitch. But I guess I would work that bargaining angle if taking it in trade or buying it outright.
I think the apples to apples comp of a 997.1 to .2 is straight forward, but gets cloudy as the ages/mileage/options/sub model details diverge.

I owned a '07 base Carrera whose sole options were Bose and Parking Sensor.
Loved the simple, raw, "everything you need and nothing more" experience.

Moved to a '11 GTS and cannot adequately describe the exponential improvement in engine power, suspension compliance and performance improvement of passive vs active (PASM with a DSC controller), the creature comfort of ***, Alcantara; PCM audio quality, Bluetooth connectivity, audio source choice, increased contact patch grip, braking, exhaust note and HVAC. And did I mention styling?

The sole thing I covet is the .1 6MT in my former car. It was absolutely perfect in throw, precision and butter smooth. Just magic and still impresses when I borrow it from the guy who bought it from me. Not sure if it is a bizarre one-off example, but it is original, bone stock with 80K+ miles and remains perfect.

I am addressing my .2 gearbox comparative shortcomings by just recently (last week) installing an OEM SSK with a FF SRK (personally installed by the FF company founder and CEO). Chasing the dragon here.

Your comparison emphasis might be purely financial, but there are profound experiential differences between the 997 versions and sub-models that also stir the debate pot.

Best of luck with your deal.

Price difference between those 2 cars should be $15k. How much are they asking for the 997.2 and what will CarMax give you for your 997.1 on straight buyout, which they do, but maybe not for one as old as an '05.
