I still don't think PAG will allow the Boxster to compete with the 997 on the power front. But I DO love the idea of a lightweight version for club sports! 230 - 270 hp is plenty in a lightweight chassis...eh?
Yes, 230-270hp is plenty in a lightweight chassis (I have 240hp in my 1,890 lb chassis and it's ample), but the Boxster Coupe isn't going to be THAT light. I'm hoping for 2,750 lbs in actual street trim, at best. So, it could stand to have a bit more juice (if they weren't worried about stepping on the toes of the 911)

...that just sounds glorious! I can only hope my project car can come CLOSE to something like that someday.
As for the Boxster, I thought the cab was already down to around 2700-2800 lbs.? I remember reading how making it as light as possible was a major goal since it was never going to have 911 power? Maybe I'm wrong. BUT...if a coupe should be even lighter and a "lightweight" should be even lighter than that...maybe they can get one down to the 2500 lb range? Not earth shattering, but quite substantial in today's world. Let's just hope!

Agreed! If they can get it to a real 2,500 lbs, then 270hp would be wonderful! It's just that Porsche's weight numbers rarely correlate with a road-ready car's weight. My lightly optioned 2002 C2 was listed at 2,965 by Porsche, but weighed well over 3,200 lbs ready to go (no passengers nor cargo). So, I figured that a current Boxster probably weights over 3,000 lbs (I hope I'm wrong)...
