Default PSM ABS Failure Warning after installing new pads and rotors

Installed the FCP Euro brake kit on my 997.1 today. When I started the car after the install it shows PSM and ABS failure warnings. The brake kit included new brake pad sensors which I also installed. Is this a temporary warning that goes away after a few miles or is something amiss? There were no warnings before The new rotors and pads were installed.

Nope you messed something up. Is there a chance you mixed up the ABS sensor with the brake wear sensor at the connectors?

Never touched the ABS sensors. Just removed each old brake pad wear sensor replaced with new. I’ll hook up my Foxwell to see what faults it shows.

Foxwell shows code 4205. Front Left Wheel Speed Sensor Line. Also shows code P0503 Vehicle Speed Signal PSM/ASR. I’ll pull the front left wheel and see if the sensor wiring got pinched somehow.

If it is on start-up, before any of the wheels turn, you likely have a wire harness or an ABS unit problem. Best to check continuity of the wheel speed sensor signal to the ABS unit. If there is an issue, first replace the wheel speed sensor. I have also seen wheel bearings fail causing a faulty signal, but that was during driving.

You have a Check Engine Light too. That should be a different error than related to the others.

The ABS and PSM one you'll figure out once you get that wheel off. There's a metal flip up clip that holds that sensor together. I'd take it apart and make sure it's clean then reseat it.

Did you disconnect the battery by any chance? That will give you a Christmas tree of lights that however disappear after a hundred yards of driving.
You then also need to reset the window stop positions.

Update…removed the left front wheel this morning and found the speed sensor plug was pulled part way out of its connector. Must have loosened when I raised the connector clamp to plug in the new brake wear harness. Pushed the speed sensor plug back into place and remounted the wheel. When I started the car there were no PSM or ABS warnings. Drove to a nearby road where I could do the bed-in process for the new pads and rotors as recommended. Also, Check Engine, PSM, and ABS lights come on when ignition switch is 2nd position as a test feature as noted in the owners manual. They go out when engine has started. All is good.

Glad you found it. If it happened right after you fixed something, you did something to cause it. It is 90% not a coincidence.
