Default Painting Brake Calibers- 997.1 base

Looking at painting my brake calibers. The car is a 997.1 base model in the color- seal gray. What is the top rated product? A good color for a seal gray body with black interior? Best Porsche decal for each caliber?

The best stuff is G2 caliper paint. It's a 2 part paint so single use. Prep is the most important part, but the stuff holds up for decades.

I've used it on a set of Saab SPG calipers in the late 90s, a 914 in 2003, a set of GMC pickup calipers around 2005, my wife did her 997 c2s back in 2013, ans I just did my 928 a month or so ago. Only stuff I'll use.

Fronts before on car

Rears before on car

Usually I just paint them on the car, but was installing stainless brake lines and new rotors too so took them off, plugged the holes and ran them through my heated ultrasonic parts washer

Masked off sliding pins and painted

Rears reinstalled

Fronts reinstalled

These are the ones my wife did on her pink 997

I wasn't sure which color I was going to use on my 928 and bought both the gold and silver kits. Obviously ended up using the silver but the gold would look great on a grey car and it's kind of a Brembo gold color which I thought might not look good on my bronze car because it's close but not the same color. Good would also not look like you were trying to represent a different type of Porsche brakes like red or yellow or acid green might. I'll sell that kit at a discount; if you're interested, just let me know.

Another option - here is my full DIY thread including photos taken many years later showing how well the finish has held up:

I used this paint on various cars (duplicolor engine enamel w/ ceramic) - it can handle 500F which is good so no discoloration....once it cures and gets heated it bakes into the caliper.

Duplicolor Paint Engine Enamel with Ceramic, Grabber Green, DE1641 Grabber Green, 12 OZ DC DE1641 | Buy Online - NAPA Auto Parts (napaonline.com)

Best part it only took 30min per corner to do...

Since I had left over paint did it on Forester - this one was 15min and it's been on for past 2 years and looks great, no discoloration.

Any single stage paint out of a can will reactivate when exposed to brake fluid or other petroleum products. Paint that is epoxy or 2-part is a better choice as it chemically cures instead of air curing so doesn't reactivate.

It's the same reason I used 2-part paint on a CIS fuel distributor I refurbished.
