Default Noise front left wheel when turning left

2006 C2S, 97000kms.

I've been hearing this noise in the front left wheel area pretty much since I've had the car (3 years). It occurs only when I turn left, usually for a 90+ degrees turn.

I changed both control arms this spring and it made no difference. It sounds very similar to what you can hear in the video.

Car turns fine, nothing that be felt in the steering wheel or any grinding.

What could it be?

First off, wow!
That would drive me crazy.

What turns when you turn the wheel?
Steering tie rod
lower ball joint
upper strut bushing

My guess is the strut coil spring moving on the lower spring pad or noisy/bad upper strut bearing. You could try spraying soapy water or WD40 on the lower spring rubber pad or up around the strut mount bearing to see if the noise goes away.

Thanks! Forgot to mention that the strut top mount was changed 2 years ago and the noise was present before that.

Diagnosing over the internet is hard, especially lacking all facts.

it would take me a minute to find that squeak in person.

Lay down and look, listen, touch things while someone turns the wheel to make the noise.

there is not a large list of things it could be.
suspect everything,

I have the exact same noise under the same conditions! I haven't resolved it yet but I ordered a new strut mount bearing after I was able to spray the bearing with some silicon grease and was able to confirm the noise went away temporarily. Was your bearing replaced at the same time as the top mount?

I think this is an excellent application for chassis ears to diagnose the location of the squeak. You don't have to drive to diagnose, just in your garage.

Read up on my use to diagnose a clunk/rattle here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ed-advice.html

Many shops have these tools. Jack the car, pull the wheel, clip on the microphones, replace the wheel with just three bolts hand tight... drop the car... repeat.

The other way is take a can of spray silicone and start hitting one spot at a time. Silicone will wash/wear away in a few months so it is a relatively benign approach to identify the badie.

Peace
