Default Top off oil with MoS2?

2006 CS2, 97000km.

My car is using Liqui Moly 5w40 and read about MoS2 only recently.

I was thinking about using MoS2 to top off the oil (up to one 300ml bottle, LM 5w40 oil after that if ever needed) instead of using oil.

Is this a bad idea?

No problem adding the MoS2. You can put up to 1.5 bottles in with each oil change. Adding after the fact won't matter.

MoS2 comes in 10 oz cans, which treat 6 liters of oil. To treat 7.5 liters (8 qts.) for our cars you'd bump that up to 13 oz. (If you go that route, mark your open can )

Will 3 oz. make the difference between failure and longevity? Nah. But's it's just how the game is played in the LM Additive Championships!

I just switched over to an LM oil - do I need additives? I have read and heard that using a formulated oil is better as you are much more precise with what's going into the engine.

As Adias had pointed out previously, MoS2 is a solid that does not mix with the oil. Therefore it does not disturb the additive package. What it does do is offer a partially bonded lubricating film over the solid parts. Consider it double protection (yeah, you could argue about that!!!). Do you need it? No. Will you feel better using it? That's personal.

What? no Ceratec? C'mon, the stuff is great... it is like puky cream color so it's got to be good.

Peace

I'd use it but I contacted LM a while ago and recommended using MoS2 as Ceratec does not (according to them but I remember you received conflicting information in the past from LM as well).

I also think I read somewhere that Ceratec was more appropriate for the 9A1 engine and MoS2 for the M96/7.

A year ago the LiquiMoly tech line rep. recommended MoS2 with Leichtlauf 5W40 for my 997.2 for better insurance against bore scoring.

You can add MoS2 if you have space. Do not overfill. Normally a 997 takes 465mL of MoS2 (about 1.5 300mL bottles).

I'm waiting for the oil level to go down enough so I know it's safe to add.

Each segment on the oil gauge is about 400mL This applies to the 997.2 but I suspect the 997.1 is the same.
