Default How many miles is too many for a driver's 997?

Hi 997 folks,

Wanted your opinion on mileage-- I'm nearing pulling the trigger on a .1 C2S or C4S (M/T), max budget around $55-60k in SoCal. I'm not looking for an absolute garage queen, but would like to pick up a clean, well-maintained car. It'll be my daily driver, and a car that I'd like to create a history with and put a lot of miles on.

How many miles is "too many" if there's such a thing? I was thinking of trying to stay <70k and target around 40-50k, but would love to hear your thoughts & experiences. Would ideally be a "forever" car for me.

While I don’t think there’s ever really too many miles but if you get one in the 50k range then you’re golden till 90 in terms of resale.

Sounds good! Will likely target sub 50 then. Hope I can find a nice one within the budget.

Looks great! Been seeing some super high mile Turbos too, great to see that kind of car up above 150k+ miles.

I don't drive as much anymore so the 100k miles driven, well documented and maintained 997.2 I purchased was a steal.

If I was looking this is the direction I'd go.

Good to know it's not entirely necessary to stay away from higher mile examples. Seems like the good owners keep them on the road for a long time!

Ultimately it’ll be about color, options and how well maintained. There aren’t too many around. All things being equal I do think there’s a psychological drop off after 50k and 100k so if you plan on keeping it for years and putting miles on it then there’s no point to the low mileage premium.

50,000 sure looks like a lot more than 49,999...

I think it depends what you plan to do with the car. If you're going to keep it, I would have no problems with a higher mileage .2 if it has a solid mx history.

For me a higher mileage car was all I could afford when I got mine. Also drive that thing as much as possible because that's the whole point right?

I bought my 2007 C4 at 78k miles and my 1997 C2 at 73k miles.
Find the right car, worry less about miles.

There is a 997.2 C2S for sale right now in your price range on here.

https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1353466

IMO priced right as well, should sell quickly.

I personally would do a 997.2 C2 over a 997.1 C2S for the same money.

I bought my 2005 base with 107,000 to daily drive. It had all of the service records and IMS done recently. I have 122k on it now and intend to keep going!

Yeah, looks like a solid price on that one-- sale pending! Unfortunately still have to sell my current car but that should happen next week... C2 997.2 is a great car for sure, the .2s though seem to have quite a price premium on them. I think I'd be happiest in the low $50k range so I have some play money for maintenance and mods.

Great to hear, hope I keep mine going past 120k. Planning a drive up to Big Sur already.
