Default B16 Damptronics not recommend by local shops

Have called three local and very reputable shops and they all said “go with PSS10s” and “Bilstein Damptronic are garbage”

I’m a bit confused by this. Aren’t the B16 Damptronic essentially PSS10s for PASM vehicles? The PSS10s will allow much more configurability for stiffness/softness at the twist of a **** but wouldn’t the B16 + DSC beat PSS10s any day of the week?

Are there other differences between the PSS10s and B16s that I’m missing?

PSS10s are just B16s without Damptronic (PASM). I have B16s with Damptronic and I really like them-- especially with the DSC sport controller. I can't speak for the PSS10s, but I'm sure they are also great once you dial them in. It just seems like a waste if you have a PASM car to not take advantage of the adjustability with the push of a button.

B16s with DSC is suspension and handling bliss.

If they didn't know they were the same then I would not go to those shops!

From my research, B16 plus DSC has way more adjustability and fine tuning plus having 2 different setting at the touch of a bottom (PASM button).

I have a set of B16s ready to be installed soon and will be controlled by DSC. From all the data points I have gathered, this is the ideal setup for handling and comfort. I’m not sure why some shops don’t recommend the B16?

I bought a 997.1 C2S last year that has the B16 kit installed. My roads are poor and I’m a little older. Would the DSC controller soften them up a bit as compared to the non-sport setting in PASM? Thanks.

DSC will let you totally customize their behavior based on g-forces. In street mode, mine are set to stay full soft for a period, then incrementally stiffen to about 70. In sport mode, they start stiffer and go to full stiff at the end of the g-table.

Anyone upgrade from eibach + DSC to b16 + DSC? What was it like after?

I’m mostly but not completely satisfied with eibach + DSC. I feel like damping could be improved a bit.

I assume you mean Eibach lowering springs with the stock PASM dampers? If so, B16s will be better. First, the OEM PASM suspension lacks adequate rebound dampening in my opinion. Once you install B16s, you can actuakkybfeel what the suspension is doing rather than just assume it's working. If you ever drive over some mid-speed road undulations, that's the place where you'll really first feel the difference. Whereas the stock suspension just pogos up and down, you feel the B16s controlling the rear weight motion.

The second thing is that putting lowering springs on the stock dampers actually limits them working the way they were designed to by shortening the available piston piston, whereas the B16s being true adjustable coilovers are designed to work properly though their entire adjustment range.

I installed my B16s before I added the DSC and could immediately feel the improvement in the way the car drove and handled. The ride is firmer, but more compliant which is a difficult sensation to describe but I found the stock PASM very abrupt when hitting bumps especially sharp ones like a bridge joint, and the B16s just work better.
