Default PCCM+ Backup Camera Issue

I recently installed a PCCM+ (Porsche Part #99764259100) in my 2008 997.1. The audio shop added a backup camera using the supplied cable and connector (the car was not originally equipped with a backup camera). The unit works fine but it doesn’t recognize the camera when I shift into reverse. Anyone have a similar experience or know of compatibility problems? Thanks!

I would pop off the tailight where they ran the camera n make sure its connected to your back up light wire n grounded correctly

they didn't bother to test it? for the non auto cars a 2ndary reverse trigger directly from the reverse light 12v wire needs to be spliced.

I have what might be a dumb question related to sourcing a trigger for the back up camera. Isn't there a trigger that comes from the transmission that tells the reverse lights to come on?

only for pdk/autos as there is an canbus signal from the transmission control unit that tells the gauge cluster (in auto cars) what gear the car is.

for manual cars the cluster has nothing of this sort and has NO electronic signal re which gear the car is in - hence you will need a get the reverse trigger from the reverseLight.

Anyone know if this is the case for manual cars that had the optional rear parking sensor? Something's getting power up to the hardware that provides the audio feedback, wherever that's located. I wonder if that could be an easier place to tap than at the tail light.

And something has to be triggering the reverse lights to come on too. That’s what I was thinking of

I believe the reverse light switch is located at the transmission. The reverse lights are probably a whole lot easier to get to.

I think its also tapped from the from the exact same reverse light 12v signal. Its the only signal that goes to the rear of the car based on the official wiring diagrams Ive seen. To tap power from the parking sensors, the speaker (and main module) may be in the rear cabin - its more work, cabling then going directly to the tail light if thats the case.

For my aftermarket rear parking sensors I tapped into the reverse light signal and the reverse light harness in general for all wiring (power + Gnd).

I think its some sort of physical contact mechanism @ the transmission. Which would then feed the black+blue cable in the central harness of the vehicle beside the fuse box (as per main wiring diagram) -> which then feeds both tailLights (also as per main wiring diagram).

On my NM Automotive CarPlay/Android Auto unit on my 997.2 manual trans, I never had to splice or tap a wire.

It flips to the rear camera every time the car is put in reverse and you have to give your year/transmission to NM Automotive when ordering.

Below is a note on the installation guide.

Are you able to share which cable/connector and camera you used? I am looking to add a camera to my PCCM+ also. Thank you!
