Default Fire Extinguisher in your 997?

How many of you out there actually have this in your car?

Is this something I should be considering? I have a 2007 Carrera with 125K+ miles. Is the need for something like this increase as the miles climb?

Has anyone actually had to use one before or needed one but didn't have?

Thanks!

Have two friends whose house caught fire. They both said pour gas on it and burn to ground. Rebuilding half burned house is never right. I think same of car.

Are there good options outside of the rennline one? Does it get in the way ever?

I keep an Element 50 in the passenger footwell. Velco'd to the carpet it doesn't move.

is Velcro a good idea in the event of an accident? Wouldn’t want that turning into a projectile. No clue how well Velcro would hold.

I optioned the 981 with one. Was going to remove and sell but got lazy. My 997 carbon seats came with one that I remove thinking I’d sell the extinguisher but never did.

Element 50 is the way to go. Fits in door pocket. Have one in the 993 and 997.2. Gave away the old seat mounted Rennline extinguisher.

can it safely live in the frunk as well? Heat doesn't damage or mess with it?

I consider a 997 a modern car. No modern car I’ve ever owned needed and extinguisher, and I have no reason to believe I need one in my 997.2 since I don’t track it. If I were tracking or racing I would have one.

One guy I follow on instagram had it happen to him last year in his 997. I think he is out of LA. Car went into flames. Doing a drive up Angeles Crest I believe.

A single one of these things is pointless on a fuel fire or similar. It wont do anything unless you get insanely lucky.

Just let it burn

I have them in my old 928s and 914 but not in any of the 997s or Cayenne.

I have one, and yes it's a safety item, but let's be real boys... it looks cool

If your car is on fire or more likely you’ve stopped to render aid - you want the Element FE readily at hand and not in the trunk.

I carry it as much for my own potential use as the ability to help out another motorist in an emergency.
