+1 on NM Automotive. I’ve been thrilled with the unit, and Nick’s support.

Happy Friday. I am trying to clarify reverse camera wiring for my 997.2 manual to the Mr. 12v unit.

The camera has a video connector as well as a power and ground cable connector. The harness also has a video connector with a separate red wire. I assume that the red harness wire is connected to the green system trigger wire on one end, and the reverse light power on the other end. Can I also connect the camera power to the trigger wire at the reverse light? In other words, instead of trying to connect to the reverse light input under the seat, can I tap into the reverse wire at the rear light harness and also connect the camera power to the same wire?

I hope my question is clear. Thank you.

Maybe the image is easier. Any help is appreciated.

From what I can tell, the Mr 12 Volt has two wires that relate to the Backup camera:
  • Green "Reverse Light 12V" (Trigger Wire input?) that switches on the camera when Car Setting >> Reverse Condition is set to use "Reverse State"
  • Red "Rear Cam 12V" (Camera 12V power output?) that is turned on when Car is in Reverse
Can anyone confirm that the green wire is an INPUT to trigger the camera view, and that the red "Rear Cam 12V" wire is a 12V OUTPUT when the car is in reverse?

There are three options (Car Setting >> Reverse Condition) for specifying how Mr 12 Volt detects Reverse and turns on the camera view:
  • Parking Key - no idea what this does
  • Reverse State - looks for 12V on Green "Reverse Light 12V" wire
  • Gear Position - reads CAN BUS data (may not work for Manual transmissions)
Can anyone confirm what the Parking Key option does, or if the Gear Position option works on Manual Transmissions, and then output's 12V on the red "Read Cam 12V" wire?

I have a manual transmission car and would prefer to let Mr !2 Volt detect reverse from the CAN BUS, and NOT to have to tap into the rear reverse lights.

I asked this question before. The conclusion was there's no way to use CAN on the manual transmission 9x7 cars, so you'll need to tap into the reverse light. It's pretty easy: the wires are right there where you're running the camera cable anyway.

I just used a T-tap type connector at the reverse wire on the left taillight. I'm struggling to remember how I hooked up everything to the camera and Mr12Volt box, though, sorry.

Edit: I just went out and dug into the trunk. I ran a red T-tap to the blue/black (I think) reverse wire to the left taillight. This is connected to two wires: the camera positive wire, and the wire alongside the camera signal wire that runs back to the Mr12Volt where it connects to the reverse trigger wire. When the reverse lights turn on it sends power to turn on the camera and triggers the Mr12Volt into reverse mode.

Actually, I have a 991.1, any idea if the CANBUS works for those? Thanks for the details on the reverse light - that's my fallback plan.

Just to add another datapoint - I also had to tap into the reverse light harness in order to get reverse camera to trigger on my Mr12Volt. 2009 C2 Manual.

Just curious, once you did, did you get dynamic guide lines?

2010 987.2 manual for me. But yes, the dynamic guidelines work with the steering wheel. I’m using the reverse lights as the trigger as I noted above.

I had to change some settings, I think, but it works fine.

To get dynamic guidelines on my car (987.2, manual transmission) I had to set dip switch #1 to on. Then in the settings for Mr12Volt under Car Settings I have reverse camera set to "after loading track" and reverse track set to "on". It should be the same for a 997.2 if it's a manual? Dunno about PDK.

It's a little confusing because when I got my system the Mr12Volt instructions said dip #1 should be off for manual and on for PDK. But the guidelines only worked for me with it turned on. They've since updated the manual and it says dip #1 should just be off for all cars, but I still have it turned on and it's working with the camera and dynamic lines.

I think this is all correct but it's been a while since I installed things so I'm going from my old notes.

Just installed the MR12volt, and everything seems to be working, EXCEPT I get nothing for my backup camera. the screen doesn't even go blank when switching into reverse. I have my camera power wire connected to the MR12volt Red REAR CAMERA 12V wire. I've attempted to check the voltage of the wire, but it doesn't seem to be getting any voltage at all, whether the car is in reverse or not.

2009 C2S PDK

I've just emailed Roman, but figured i'd ask here in case anyone is cruising the forums on a saturday night.

Thanks!

Did you set the dip switches correct? This is from the firmware readme.

Well would you look at that! Reading correctly actually works. I'm so dumb. I only glanced at the sticker and didn't see the other directions for PDK.

Really appreciate the help Thomas_! Thanks so much!

This would be the correct answer!
