My 2015 911 is in the shop right now with this problem. My mechanic is telling me the same, that PORSCHE does not sell a replacement sensor for this. He thinks we may need to replace the transmission which will cost a fortune. Does anyone have any suggestions on a solve for this? My car only has 55,000 miles, is not a daily driver and is pretty much babied. I am in shock that I'm having to deal with this. Appreciate anyone's input.
My 2010 997 just went through PDK sensors replacement (temperature and distance sensors). My only has ~55k miles as well. It is not cheap but still better than a PDK replacement, which was quoted for $25K at a SoCal dealership.

Yes. My last replacement was billed to Fidelity at $20,000 but that was almost 4 years ago and nothing that I know of has gotten cheaper over the past 4 years. First one was $14,000 as I recall it but I think that was 8 or 9 years ago. Can't believe Porsche can't get the PDK electronics to a dependable standard instead of it still being a worrisome issue after having been introduced 15 years ago. Their engineers are no idiots but this (at least to me) seems like a steeper than should be expected learning curve.
By the way, I still never heard of a mechanical PDK failure so that part of it seems just about bullet proof. They just can't seem to figure out how to make the electronics portion of it reliable.
Aftermarket sensor job being quoted at $9k
Can't decide if it's worth it on a 9 year old car or if I should sell the car.
Would love everyone's opinion. This is her BTW.

That is WAAYY too much. The sensor is about 2k, fluid and other parts 2-300 and it's less than a day's worth of labor to replace.

Would you mind mentioning what shop/mechanic made the quote?
There is a 55 minute video by Porsche Club of America entitled '' PDK Transmissions: How They work and can they be repaired''. The repair shop is ATLSPEEDWERKS in Gainesville, GA just NE of Atlanta. I would go there if out of warranty.

Thanks for this. Very enlightening video. I am having the sensor replaced with a T-Design one. Will update you all on how it turns out.
