Default Need help with taillight surprise

I have no idea how, but I noticed my rear passenger taillight had come loose while I was washing it. I pulled it out before securing it back again, and noticed it had these two boxes wired/spliced to it. I have no idea if these are for say, an LED light conversion (had similar on an older motorcycle) or if they were for power for a backup camera? Any help would be appreciated. Also, could these be removed?
Thanks

No, no numbers on either of the two boxes. One is stuck with double sided tape to the underside of the taillight and the other one was just loose in the taillight well. I’m trying to decide if I should try and disconnect it?

Are there LED bulbs in the lights? Some old style LEDs needed a contraption like that

So looking at a previous photo of yours that you show in another thread (attached below), you have a 997.1 which came originally with tail lights with incandescent bulbs, not LEDs. Whomever was the previous owner of your car decided that they wanted LED tails, so they installed an aftermarket set. Those boxes you see there are resistors to trick your car into thinking you have plain incandescent bulbs so that you don’t get a tail light bulb error in your dash. If you take the boxes out, you will get that error. The factory tail lights are much cleaner in that they have wiring harnesses that are all sealed up/tidy and not just hanging there loose in the back with all that crap.

I personally prefer the original tail lights that came with the car (2nd pic below), as they look OEM and are also very easy to just change out a blown bulb whereas if an LED goes out, you basically have to buy a whole new tail light.

If you like the LED 997.2 tail lights, which I personally do, then swap yours out for DEPO tail lights. They have a set on ebay (where I got mine) now. No little boxes needed, no codes thrown.

Thanks man, they're actually working fine, so I'll leave well enough alone. Once they die I'll reassess.
