Default Redish Leaking Fluid from 997.1

Hello Everyone,

I was poking around under my 2007 997.1 S last night and noticed this redish liquid that appeared to be leaking from the car. I’ve never noticed any puddles or anything, but curious what it may be/ what the concern level should be? I’m fairly new to the car, and still learning a lot about it. ~80k miles total currently. Any help is appreciated.

Looks like coolant to me. It has a pretty distinctive smell. If you’re not familiar with it, just compare to what’s in your coolant tank.

Def looks like coolant from the picture. It will be oily to the touch, but not thick like trans fluid or power steering fluid which can both be red (bright red if new)

Always remember that Porsche has built air cooled cars since 1948. Water cooled since 1977, and 911s with water since 1998. They are still sorting out water pumps.

I forgot about the “level of concern.” If it was me, that’s a big enough drip that I’d want to figure out where it’s coming from and take care of it. It looks like the opposite end of the engine from the water pump, so that easy explanation is probably out. You can always just keep an eye on the coolant level in the tank, and refill as necessary, but you run the risk of it getting worse and letting go in a big way, dumping your coolant on a drive. Proceed according to your own risk tolerance.

Coolant. Pressure test the cooling system and you'll find the source.

I had thought it looks like coolant, but seemed like a weird place. I guess it is running around from above somewhere. I’ll have to warm it up and look around to see what it looks like, I haven’t noticed any change in coolant level so it must be small.

Glad to hear it isn’t transmission fluid or something.

Thanks everyone for the input!
