Interesting discovery behind the bumper cover...
So, today I started disassembling the rear of the GTS to make changing the spark plugs easier. When I removed the bumper cover, I discovered a K40 module hanging beside the left bumper pad. I'm assuming it was originally zip-tied to the bumper pad support. It sure wasn't doing any good pointing at the ground like this!
This leaves so many questions. I don't know anything about the K40 system. I'm not sure where to begin looking to see if the rest of the system is still there. If it is, can it be updated to current or is it junk?
I haven't seen any other evidence in the front or interior. But, I haven't had a reason to look for it, either...

Yep, exactly what that is. Have one on my car too. Should be a speaker inside along the left or right fiitwell wall and 2 lights somewhere (maybe just under the gauge cluster). Should also be a radar and laser.sensor at the front. It's possible the PO removed everything except the rear receiver since that would have required bumper removal.
All the system needs to work is the remote (keyfob size) so look in the glovebox, door pockets or center console to see if it's somewhere.

I have one too. I just cut the wires (disconnect the battery first), applied heat shrink to the ends and put the wires back into the hole they came out of. I can’t imagine a 10+ year old system being useful. Not sure if there’s a resale market or if it’s worth undoing interior bits to take out intact.

K40 is awesome. Have front and rear hidden detectors, plus laser diffuser on my 997.2, on both my 911s. Best mod ever. Over 60k combined miles and they haven't nailed me yet and I give them ample opportunity daily.

I'll check the inside once I get the maintenance items (plugs, filters, belt, and brake flush) done and she's back on the tires.
I've been meaning to look into a detector but just haven't had the time. Plus, she hasn't been driven as much as I'd like. I've only managed just over 5k miles since I brought her home...

I found a little more evidence of the system today. It was a pretty clean install as I've never noticed these blue lights before. Of course, they're nearly black when not iluminated by a flash. Couldn't find a speaker in the footwells.
After I finished flushing the brakes this afternoon, I got the air box out in preparation for changing the drive belt. I was able to follow the wire from the rear sensor that was dangling, to this bundle of wires.
One of the wires looks like really small gauge speaker wire. The ends are terminated with butt connectors but, the other side is empty. The bundle leads to a screw in the fender, I'm assuming for grounding, and to the Accell fuse holder just left of the screw. The fuse holder leads to the loom over the right rear wheel well (top left of pic).
Any reason I should leave this mess? Should I leave the fuse holder or clip it near the loom and terminate the end of the wire?

We're you able to find the remote fob controller anywhere (center armrest, door pockets, console cubby, glovebox)?
If so, just putting a new battery into it will probably bring it to life. That's all I had tondo with mine. When I bought my car, the PO said, "There's this thing in the center console. Doesn't seem to do anything, but here you go". I put a new battery in it and the car started talking to me the next time I started it up and pushed the remote buttons.

The wires in the back don't look like they go to anything anymore. There's only wire in one side of the butt connectors. Since the front sensor has been removed as well, I'm assuming the system was removed. Where would the main control box be installed?

Today, before tackling the drive belt, I investigated a little further. The system is no longer in the car. All wires were terminated in the bundle. I also think I know why it was removed. It was probably unreliable. The power wire was just wrapped around a 1/4" section of stripped wire and wrapped with electrical tape. It was probably intermittent in operation...
So, I just removed the leftover mess. Now I just need to order the missing air box grommet on Monday...
