New to the forums as i just purchased my first 997. I am looking at ducktails and see Misha is popular, any other recommendations? I found a bolt on ducktail by Better Bodies for $469, any experience with that company, good quality? The Misha design is perfect, not too aggressive just cant find the website.
Can't speak to Better Bodies vs. Misha, but neither are full trunk lid replacements. Personally, when I decided on a ducktail, I knew I wanted the Sport Classic look, i.e. a full lid. if you go that route, the two held in highest regard seem to be Getty Design's "997 Ducktail Sport" and RPM Technik's carbon ducktail.
I went with the Getty and am pretty happy with it. The shop that did the prep and install also had only good things to say about it. I did scrap the metal mesh that came with the Getty for the OEM Sport Classic plastic mesh.
do you have the P#s for the OEM sport classic mesh? i just ordered the CSR CF ducktail and it comes with their own metal mesh as well..
I lucked out and found a new and unused set on eBay for ~$150. They are available via dealers but are a bit more, about $130/140 each. The part #s are 997 512 625 02 and 997 512 626 02
Had I not found a good deal on them, I likely would have just picked up a "universal mesh" plastic sheet for cheap. There is nothing special about the Porsche mesh, it's just black plastic honeycomb mesh. I just always fear the painted metal mesh Getty gives you will chip over time. Maybe that's unfounded as the inlets are not in a high impact area of the car.
Getty Ducktail Sport is the one to get that is a replica of the Sport Classic ducktail for the 997's. The Classic Ducktail is a more of a throwback design from the RS 2.7.
The additional primer service would help the body shop prep. Don't forget the 997.2 Sport Classic third brake light delete panel too.
I don't believe Misha exists anymore. I have their widebody kit on my Cayenne and others have tried to inquire about it without any success. The BBB shows them as no longer in business and their phone numbers no longer active.
So, I have what is and will be the only Misha Widebody Cayenne Turbo S in the world. The only other kit they did was on a GTS for the SEMA show when they debuted it.
