Default Engine Compartment Fan - Running with cold engine

On my 997.1 the Engine Compartment Fan gets triggered after driving a couple of miles even when the engine is still cold. Once triggered, it continues to run regardless of the engine temp. It turns off once the engine is turned off. The temp sensor and the fan checks OK and there is no fault/diagnostic code reported by the DME. Others have reported the issue but I have not found anyone posting a fix. If you have a similar issue, did you get it fixed and what was the solution. Please share.

Make sure engine compartment temperature sensor is clipped securely to its intake manifold bracket. This happened to my 996 when the temp sensor came off the bracket and dangled really close to exhaust manifold.

Any chance someone can provide a pic of what to look for?

It's a plastic sensor that goes in a rubber grommet between cylinders 4 and 5, so passenger side between the rearmost and middle cylinders. Yours is likely out of the grommet and laying on the motor.

The temp sensor is secure and was tested for response to temp change. It seems once the fan gets triggered it never shuts off even when the engine compartment temp has lowered to below 70 F. It will be back to normal operation (off) once the car is left over night. Can this be a DME or relay or fan controller issue? Any clues would be appreciated.

Could be the fan relay sticking, or a bad sensor that isn't sending the correct signal once it gets hot.

The relay and fuse are both on a panel under the subwoofer. There are plenty of resources on how to pull the sub. It's a 15 min job tops.
