Default Need new tires

2007 997S, currently has worn P-zeros. Would like something that leans more towards comfort this time. Quieter, etc. Maybe [longer-wearing? Willing to give up some paper performance for that as I won't be tracking the car or doing anything too strenuous. Mine's equipped with 305's/235's but not averse to going to another size (as long as my lobsters accept it) to achieve. Any recommendations for 2022? Thanks in advance for all input!

The Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires are all season tires; certainly good tires but not as good as the 4S for a 997.

Thanks for the correction. I was not familiar with that model. Found comparison/review HERE.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport(Max Performance Summer, 245/40R18 97Y)
  • What We Liked: Test-leading braking in the dry and wet; it's fun to drive on the track.
  • What We'd Improve: Little tweaks here and there, but nothing significant.
  • Conclusion: It's balanced, well-rounded, great at being what it is.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S(Max Performance Summer, 245/40R18 (97Y))
  • What We Liked: It's the category superstar on the dry track and good on the road.
  • What We'd Improve: The competition has caught up in the wet.
  • Conclusion: It's still the Max Performance Summer benchmark.

I run Nitto Invos on both my 928s and my 997. Love them.

Have an 09 base that came with Conti. Put about 10k on them before change out to Mich P4S. Conti seemed to harden a bit as they aged, but were good tires. The Mich feel more sticky and prefer them on a wet road but they sure are spendy. Really cant go wrong with either one.

According to every review I have ever read pitting those two tires against each other, the Conti’s ride harder and grip less.

I personally had a set of Continentals that got unbearably loud at 5/32”, compare that to every set of Michelin’s (PSS and PS4S) I have ever owned being stellar..

Once my PZeros are worn out I will be going back to Michelin.

I've run the Continentals but I was disappointed with the longevity - on factory camber and toe and no track or auto-x I wore through a set of rears in less than 10k miles. I switched out to Michelin PS4S and was immediately aware of how much better the ride quality became. Tread wear appears better than the Continentals and the Michelin sidewalls feel stiffer. I wouldn't call the Contis bad tires, wet grip and braking were fantastic, but the Michelin tire is superior in every respect.

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my 997.1 C2S Cab and they are very very impressive.

I have been a big fan of the Continental Extreme Contacts, but have not used them on a car in a good 6 years. I had them on MB SLK 55AMG and they were excellent, even in Midwest winters, I also had them on a BMW 335i Coupe and ran the snot out of them too...I had a track set of wheels and they had Hankooks Ventus (sp) on them, which were very good, but the sidewall was a bit softer than the Conti's IMO.

But being my first Porsche, and the car had a fairly new set, (4K on the tires) they are excellent, I drove it from Portland Oregon to Raleigh North Carolina last month over 10 days, 4K miles, and was super impressed with the cornering, never heard them screech yet, and that thru hairpins and mountains and side roads most the way from coast to Denver via National parks and 2 lane roads......in rain they are also excellent, both braking and highway speeds over 80...like glue. Did Tail of the Tail Dragon on last day trip at 7am with cold ish tires and never came close to breaking loose...

Seem to be wearing excellent as well.
