Default GT3 350mm brake kit for 2010 base Carrera

Hi, I have a base 997.2 in need of rear brakes soon and I am contemplating upgrading to the OE big brake kit that Suncoast offers. I would also do the front brakes although they are 2 yrs old. Have owned this car since new and now at 145k miles. Looking for improved braking, but not for tracking. Just a daily driver. Read in the Suncoast site that this upgrade is only for 996 Turbo, 994 Carrera 4S 2002-2004, Carrera S 997.2 and Carrera 4S 997.2., so only for wide bodies they write. But the Carrera S 997.2 is not a wide body as far as I know. Anyone have any knowledge of this kit fitting a base Carrera 997.2? If it fits a 997.2 Carrera S, why not a base 997.2? Here's the link, hope it works for you.
Thanks

Stock 997.2 base brakes are more than enough for street driving. Beyond perhaps a coat of paint to freshen the calipers up, really don’t see the need. I’d put that money in the (few) areas a 997.2 base car could use some help; reducing the 4x4 ride height, improving the stock exhaust note, and tightening up the shift feel if you’re 6MT.

I disagree with your opinion, but thanks. I'm looking for some technical advice if such upgrade is feasible, not if I should or not. Car has factory sport PASM, factory sport exhaust, sport shift.

The caliper bolt spacing is different between the 997.2 base Carrera (130mm) and the other cars cited (142mm). More aggressive pads and a good fluid bleed would get you improved performance for the street.

Best call Suncoast to clarify about their kit. They are usually very helpful and knowledgeable. What kind of “improved braking” are you looking for? Your stopping distance will not change with the upgrade. Depending what you are after, there are other upgrades like the GT3 master cylinder and GT3 brake booster you might consider also.

It will fit. I bought the GT3 calipers from Suncoast after doing a bunch of research. Haven't done the install yet but do a search on this site. You will need to change out lines and and maybe the mc as well.

Girodisc makes 350mm 2-piece rotors that come with caliper spacers for our cars:

Rear:

As others have stated, the .2 brakes are great to start with. I am considering the Girodiscs myself along with Hawk Ceramic pads to minimize brake dust.

OP doesn’t want to hear that upgraded discs, better pads, upgraded fluid, or better tires with the base calipers will improve braking performance more than just swapping to GT3 six pots.

Just to spell it out one more time
GT3 rotors have a different offset than the non GT3 rotors. If you switch to GT3 rotors you also need GT3 calipers

My opinion on what to do ,I will keep to myself. However, for those reading this thread for info, etc, you should know that the OP has a .2 base car. The brake system on these models was a brand new set up and design by Porsche. Do not think that it was a carryover from .1 cars. Part numbers will get confusing if you don't keep track of this.

Hi, I have a 997.2 Carrera 2S and I upgraded my brakes to front 350 mm rotors with the 997.1 GT3 6 piston calipers with 142 mm distance between bolts (same as 996.2 GT3).
If you have a 997.2 base Carrera your rotors are 330 mm and 4 piston calipers with same distance of 142 mm, so you can do the same upgrade.
As for better rotors I used zimmerman 350 mm at first (enclose photo) with brembo pads and the braking improved a lot. Nevertheless I changed later to DBA rotors 350 mm front and stock 330 mm rear (enclosed photos) with pagid pads and it breaks way better now.
Alternatively if you prefer not to change the stock calipers your best option is Girodisc just

997.1 GT3 calipers

because you will need spacers and theirs are the best..
Hope I have been of help
Cheers
Andrés

In addition to my previous post. True that GT3s (both 996.2 and 997.1) have a different offset of wheel hub and rotors matching each other. But it does not affect the calipers. You have to use the 997. 2 turbo rotors 350 mm that have the same wheel hub offset than the base Carrera.

No. The difference is in the brake rotor hat offset. Turbo and 997.1 GT3 calipers can be used interchangeably with 350mm Turbo rotors.

The 997.2 base brake system is shared with 997.1 911 Carreras and various Boxster/Caymans. Examine the fitment lists for calipers and rotors:

One more time, louder for the back row, the 997.2 base front caliper bolt spacing is 130mm (which is why you also see it in the fitment lists for GT cars - as a rear caliper). The 997.2 Carrera S/GTS/Turbo and 997.1 Carrera S/Turbo/GT3 front caliper bolt spacing is 142mm.

The sunset link definitely proves my point, the .1 911 is not listed. It cannot be , different size. The Gaudin link for caliper leads one to believe that there is no sense in "upgrading" brakes on a .2 base Carrera since you already have GT 2RS brakes.
